A day on the farm doesn't always turn out how we wish it would, and at Jara Farms we want to be transparent and honest about everything - good or bad.

A few days ago I noticed there weren't as many Barred Rock chicks as there should be, so I counted them and realized about 50% were missing. There were no signs of a predator attack; no dead birds, no blood. They were just gone. We can only guess what happened, but we took extra steps to make the brooder house more secure and it hasn't happened since.

This loss means we will not have live young pullets for sale this year. Current orders will be honored.

We are set up today at the Wellsville Balloon Rally along with our family bakery, K*m Essa! We will be beside the Community Bank in Main Street until 4pm and in Island Park this evening.

We have our specialty animal feed and grains so you can see what we use on the farm. We would love to meet you and chat with you today!

The 'why' of Jara Farms...

We move all the shelters in the pasture on a regular basis. Sometimes when moving the chicken shelter, some of them get out and we catch them again to put them back into the shelter. Every morning, we make sure to block any holes at the bottom of the shelter to prevent predators from getting in. This way of farming is very simple, but it requires extra work here and there.

Why do we do it?

In one word: Trust.

In a few words: At Jara Farms, we keep things simple. We love our animals and enjoy being out in the pasture with them every day. We believe animals are healthier and happier when they are on fresh grass. We want to be a family friendly farm you can trust, and we invite you to follow along on every step of the journey.
