So this may not be everyone’s cup of tea but today ended the start of a year long process, back in march I bought a breeding pair of mangalista pigs along with a few barrows. Today our time, money and hard work is paid off, 238 pounds of fresh pork we grew and cared for.If you are familiar with mangalista pigs they are the wagu of pork!! This is the first of many in the future. We grind our own feed and give all our animals the best life possible and the best feed possible! I’m very excited for this chapter of our little farm.

Yesterday was a big day for the farm. We invested in mangalista pigs beginning of the summer. One was a barrow that needed finishing out. He has been loved and fed non-gmo grains, that were hand ground in an effort to have the cleanest meat we could supply for the family. He was dropped off yesterday for a very humane processing. We will soon find our how good this breed of pig is and provide for our family. This is step one in our farms future plans!

Well the hay may have won the battle but I think I won the war!! After months and months of managing hay and wondering to store it, buy square bales or round bales, which is more cost effective which has more waste and how to minimize waste…… I’m really liking this combo of shelter and hay feeders. The boys get all the hay they want and the girls do too but they just have to eat through the hog panels. This will be incorporated into the next barn/stalls/shelter lol. Stay tuned!!

Nothing like getting in the shower after your shoe yet again got stuck in the pig bathroom area and enjoying the great aroma that wafts through the shower steam.... oh the farm life that is normally hidden....
