This is the time of year when there are what feels like a thousand decisions to make...should I try for a fall-harvest succession under a low tunnel? What new varieties should I try for next year's crop plan? What should I axe? Should I prioritize bold and juicy colors, or plan for a '27 season of romantic pastels?

The important thing is to not get bogged down in the decision-making process but just CHOOSE something...and then do it (easier said then done 😜)

Now that it's August everything is taking off and I'm so happy to see it! Last year was kind of a wash with a crazy amount of animal predation, so to have so many varieties thriving and putting out beautiful blooms is a great victory for this season ☺️

Who is she???

When these lemon-red brushstroke sunflowers started to bloom, I thought: "Huh, those are nice. Don't think that's what I planted though."

I combed through all my seed invoices and couldn't find anything that looks like these - mislabels from seed companies are never ideal, but these are pretty enough I'll let it slide 😉

This is my first year really leaning into Benary zinnias - after years limping along with the wimpy, disease-prone Queeny series (those colors tho!) I finally made the switch to the "boring" Benary line. I was pleasantly surprised!

They've taken our heat and humidity like a champ and I've been amazed by some of the colors, especially the Lilac variety - it's almost fluorescent in person!

Desperate Times 🤝 Desperate Measures
