🐐We are now offering goat’s milk!

We are super excited to be partnering with our neighbors at Boothill Farm, who have several milking goats. They are a wonderful family who love and care for their animals deeply; you may have seen them or shopped with them at the Annandale Farmers Market! You will be able to find their fresh goat milk in the Milkhouse. Goat milk is $8/half gallon, in glass jars. If you are purchasing goat milk, please place your jar return on the appropriate shelf (you will see a label on the metal return rack). If you do not have a jar to return, jars are an addition $5/each. At times they may also have chevre and other products available, like fresh rhubarb!

You can book a pick up for Goat Milk on the Calendly under our “Grocery Pick Up” option; if you are purchasing in addition to a cow’s milk pick up, no need to book a separate pick up appointment! Just book your normal milk pick up and grab whatever else you need while you are here.

NOTE: we have a separate cash system of Goat Milk so it can appropriately go to Boothill Farm. Please place your payment in the appropriate receptacle.

After patiently waiting two days after her due date, Latte delivered a gorgeous heifer on July 7th! She did such an incredible job- I had checked on her right before leaving for town and Latte seemed unbothered, meandering around the pasture grazing. By the time I got home thirty minutes later the calf was on the ground 😂  

We have colostrum available!
 
Most of us know colostrum is an absolute super food— so much so that the supplement market is booming with powdered forms to try and make it as readily available as possible. Good news for you, is we have the fresh stuff ready to go for a limited time! Colostrum has a high number of antibodies (such as IgG) to provide strong immune support; it is super concentrated with proteins and vitamins in order to provide the best kickstart to life. The taste of colostrum similar to milk, with a bit more of a sweet undertone and almost a creamy, buttermilk-like tang. You can drink it plain, or make a smoothie with it.
 
We have half gallons available on a first come, first serve basis; we will likely only have colostrum for the next 3-5 days as Latte will then transition to mature milk production! Colostrum is $10/half gallon. You can freeze colostrum- if you’re interested we do have pourable half-gallon freezer bags (think giant breastmilk bags 😂) for $1!We will have them in the milk house if you’d like to grab as many as you need. As colostrum is super great if you are under the weather, saving some for cold/flu season can help you be prepared!

The time has come… we are slowing the girls production and beginning the dry-off process!😞

On average, a dairy cow is typically milked 9-10 months before being dried off in preparation for their next labor and delivery. The girls are both at the tail end of their lactation cycle- Vanilla is approaching ONE YEAR of milk production, and Maple is at nine months. We are so proud of their condition, health, and temperaments to be such incredible little milk machines! 🥹

GOOD NEWS— Miss Latte arrived at the perfect time! 🥳 She is due in early July, so we should only be dry for roughly a month. At that time, we will have limited colostrum available (IYKYK, this super food is a hot commodity!), and then be right back to our normal production! 🙌

🚨We will not have milk available for pick up for the time being. 😔 The Calendly App will be adjusted to bookings for non-milk pick ups only: eggs, honey, etc.

We so appreciate your patience for the month of June, and cannot wait to serve you farm fresh milk again in July! 🥛

A little photoshoot with miss Maple this morning! ☀️ Can’t begin to explain how lovely it is to milk when the sun is shining, the barn is open, and the Carrhartt coveralls DON’T need to be worn! 🥰

🥛 REMINDER: Milk has moved to the Milkhouse! New system is to take from the TOP shelf FIRST ROW. Then work your way back, just like you would at the grocery store. Please follow this system as it ensures no milk goes to waste and everyone gets a good week+ shelf life ☺️

Everyone loves a good rainy day (as an excuse to sleep in of course) ☔️ Though first things first we need to milk- then it’s back to bed! 😉
