👨🌾 This month’s is Dr. Michaele C. Samuel! Dr. Michaele is an owner/operator of an urban farm in Prince George’s County. tranquilislands offers a wide-range of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and cut flowers.
When asked how she got into agriculture, Michaele said that her “path into agriculture is rooted in both heritage and intention. I grew up in Grenada, where farming was not a profession you chose, but a way of life. I spent my early years helping my mother tend to crops, harvest food, and understand the rhythm of the land.”
Dr. Samuel continued to say that, “[she] saw farming as a way to restore balance, not only in how food is grown, but in how people relate to the land, to nourishment, and to themselves. Establishing Tranquil Islands Urban Farm allowed me to bring agriculture into urban spaces and reframe it as something accessible, purposeful, and essential. What keeps me passionate today is the impact. I see how farming supports community well-being, preserves cultural knowledge, and creates opportunities for education and healing.” Thank you Dr. Michaela for all you do for the community, the land, and for women!
