We finished potato harvest this evening. Other than a few delays due to hot temps, could barely ask for better weather this year. And overall a good crop. Warehouse is full. We celebrated end of harvest with a pizza party with the employees.

We started potato harvest Monday. The rain over the weekend softened the ground and has made harvest go well so far. Crop is looking good this year.

Taking advantage of the nice fall weather to plant cover crops in the fields we worked this fall. We put oats in the fields that we harvested potatoes, and winter rye/peas in the hay fields we worked up that will be potatoes next year. This will help get soil biology going in spring, and add green manure to the soil when we plow under in spring to help provide nutrients to the crops. Now hoping for some rain and sunny days to get it growing.

Last two rows of the season. We finished harvest today and had a harvest pizza party for the employees that helped this fall.

Local news station visited farm today while we were harvesting.

Igl farms is a family affair and a small farm in its third generation…now partially-owned by Brad Igl, his brother and his dad.

Potato harvest 2024 is underway, we started with reds today. Very dry and dusty conditions, and hot.

Sammy likes to help check how big potatoes are getting, although he mostly likes taste testing them while I am trying to dig them out of the ground.

We purchased a new machine to deal with potato beetles, since we are limited on sprays to control them, which are very expensive and not always effective. It is the first machine in the USA and came from the Netherlands. It knocks the beetles off the plants with some flaps that spin above the row, there are baskets between the rows to catch the beetles to remove from field.

First new red potatoes dug for Dad's belated birthday supper. They sure grew a lot in the last 2 weeks after finally getting warm sunny days.
