U-Pick Blueberry Season is Here! Plus plenty of pre-picked available! It’s a beautiful weekend for blueberry picking! The berries are ripening and the rain perked everything up! If you’ve been meaning to come pick berries, now would be a great time, and we'll be opening early Saturday.

Open til 9 pm today. ☔ Mother Nature finally delivered. If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve been spending a lot of time watering and even our well was starting to remind us just how dry it’s been.

The truth is, farming has always been a partnership with Mother Nature. We can plant, w**d, water, and work hard, but in the end, farms live and die by what nature provides.

Today, the plants are happy, the blueberries are happy, and the farmer is pretty happy too. 😊

It’s a beautiful day to come out to the farm, pick some blueberries, enjoy an ice cream, and see everything growing after a much-needed drink of water.

🌱 Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food: Another Dave Story

Long before there was a Neighbor Boy Farm, there was a kid named Dave growing up in Minnesota. Dave spent his summers fishing, swimming, mowing lawns, and looking for ways to earn a few dollars. By age 11, he was collecting night crawlers and selling them from his driveway and then to local bait shops before most kids were even thinking about work.

That entrepreneurial spirit never really went away. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Business and Hospitality Management from the University of Wisconsin–Stout, Dave made his way to North Carolina in the mid-1990s.

Since then, he’s built businesses, supported nonprofits, coached kids hockey, cheered on the Carolina Hurricanes and also planted thousands of trees, cared for many customers, and now grown countless chemical free berries and vegetables, and created a farm that has become a favorite place for families throughout our community.

🌱 We could really use some rain. 🌧️ Everything is thirsty. The farm certainly is. We’ve spent a lot of time watering lately, and our well is even starting to remind us that it’s been a while since we’ve had a good rain.

That’s one of the humbling things about farming. You can prepare, plan, plant, and work hard, but sometimes you’re still at the mercy of Mother Nature. ☔

Thankfully, the blueberries are still ripening more and more each day, and we’re picking every day. 🫐 But we’d love more UPick customers to come by to help so Dave can focus on watering and harvesting blackberries and all our other delicious produce, and serving the best fresh lemonade around town!

If you’re coming out to pick, try visiting in the morning or later in the evening when the temperatures are a little more forgiving.

In the meantime, we’ll keep watering and hoping the clouds will do their part. 😜🙏🏻

🍑 The peaches are starting to harvest so it’s a good time to come by and also for us to remind y’all that the prettiest peach isn’t always the best peach.

Peaches are notoriously difficult to grow using chemical-free or organic practices. That means they may have a few scars, spots, or imperfections, or be shaped funny.

But what they lack in beauty, they make up for in flavor! That’s part of the reason why peach cobbler was invented. Turns out generations of farm families knew something we sometimes forget:

Food doesn’t have to look perfect to be delicious. And when fruit grows at its own pace and isn’t hurried along, and are left to do their thing, they grow sweeter and more delicious despite the bumps and bruises. .

Summer produce is really coming now… blueberries, blackberries, peaches, zucchini, yellow squash, raspberries, basil, cilantro, sugar snap peas just harvested for pick up today, and ask for cabbage, broccoli, tomatoes, cucumbers for now. All chemical free, better than organic!
