ISN’T JUST ABOUT WHAT TASTES GOOD. LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT WE’RE PUTTING TOGETHER.
One thing I love about being vegan is learning how different fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices can work together. Your food can have FLAVOR and still bring nutrients, fiber, antioxidants, and plant compounds to the table.
🍍 Pineapple + Turmeric — pineapple provides vitamin C and bromelain, while turmeric contains curcumin, a compound studied for its anti-inflammatory properties.
🌵 Nopal + Lemon — cactus is a source of fiber, and adding lemon gives you flavor plus vitamin C. Fiber can also support healthy digestion and regularity.
🍫 Raw Cacao + Cinnamon — when that sweet tooth starts talking, try cacao with cinnamon. Unsweetened cacao gives you that chocolate flavor without loading it with added sugar, and cinnamon can make it taste naturally sweeter.
🍒 Cherries + Kiwi — both bring antioxidants and nutrients to the table, and kiwi has also been studied for possible benefits related to sleep quality. Add them to an evening snack instead of automatically reaching for heavily processed sweets.
❤️ Pomegranate + Rosemary — pomegranate is packed with polyphenols, and rosemary contains its own antioxidant plant compounds. That makes this a flavorful combination worth adding to your rotation.
Now, I’m not telling y’all that mixing two foods together is some magical cure. Food supports the body; it isn’t a substitute for medical treatment. But one of the benefits of eating plant-based is realizing just how many nutrients and plant compounds are sitting right there in fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, nuts, seeds, beans, and mushrooms.
Big Belly Vegan isn’t only about showing y’all that vegan food can be BIG, GOOD and filling. I want y’all learning something about the plants we’re eating too. 🌱
Which combination should I turn into an actual Big Belly Vegan recipe first?
