Hey all! I know a lot of people have been wondering if we have eggs or laying hens because of the increase of price and scarcity of eggs.

Our hens are slowly picking back up, since we follow their bodies natural cycle and don't have many hens that are production breeds, we get very few eggs during winter, if any. Also our farm is a closed one, so we're not adding new chicks or layers.

Our prices are staying the same for now, but we are serving our regular customers first where supply allows.

A bit of insight into the "egg crisis" from a rancher/ farmer perspective.

The HPAI affected egg farmers because there is a longer and higher chance for exposure to the disease than for meat chickens. There will an economic effect for many of the farms that are rebuilding from scratch with their production line. In summer/fall you will probably see a significant decrease in cost at the store, and a lot of people will also suddenly be selling chickens. 😁 Hang in there, reach out locally, if you want to keep chickens do it for more than this short inconvenience, they are amazing. Ultimately this too shall pass.

Our Story (chicken math extraordinaires!)

Welcome to our farm!!! In July of 2018 we started by taking on 12 chickens from a neighbor. We did not have any chicken keeping experience what-so-ever. We loved the idea of not only aiding our community through local resources, but also knowing what we were consuming. Prior to bringing them onto the property, we did extensive research on health requirements for space, food quality, enrichment, and proper shelter. Learning how to keep our flock thriving during the hot California desert summers was a challenge, in addition to some other issues that arose. We were learning quickly, and decided this was the life for us! Just months later adding on 10 more to our flock, after the loss of a hen due to a genetic disorder. We weren’t done though... we again added 5 more to our flock just a couple months after that! All of that in less than 6 months, understand how chicken math works yet?!

We now have our adorable flock of 26, they are in a new coop and run, and are mingling together well! We hope to share some of our experiences with you through videos and posts, as well as provide some tasty and colorful produce to the High Desert! Thank you for joining us!

Update! Just 6 short months ago we were at 26 and we are now up to a beautiful flock of 35. We are ever evolving in ensuring their health, safety, and comfort while functionality of their space is maintained. The main 30 members of our flock are in a run that is 1204 sq ft, with a 150 sq ft coop attached. This coop has various methods for airflow including two door panels that are removable. All of our flock members (in the main and smaller run/coop areas) have several different objects to hide, roost, and climb, as well as dust bathing bins (but they prefer to dig out their own holes for that, of course!) In the summer, we ensure they keep cool with multiple water sources and a misting system. We have to live up to the farm name! Ask us what other methods we use to keep our feathered friends “pampered” or just scroll through a few posts and view some of the methods we use for yourself!
