10/14,day 40 of living the dream growing apples in Darboy! Good morning Fox Valley.Has it been that many days? Winding down another success filled orchard season.
It was definitely an interesting year. Hurricane menasha thinned many trees with winds of 60-70mph,causing the remaining fruit to thrive. Also tipped a couple over but we saved them. My apologies for those large apples,maybe next year we'll get some smaller ones! Lol
It also produced hail,every orchards nightmare. Probably lost 20% of our crop,but had a surplus of baking apples! The owners of Everflo orchard near bonduel lost 85% of theirs. Ouch!
But we're still plugging along.
Honeycrisp,cortland,haralred,red delicious, golden delicios,honeygold,empire,candy crisp,frostbite,fireside,greening,and morr.
Deer apples,baking apples,seconds,windfalls for sauce,all on our bargain table.
And our world famous Caramel apples. Plain or smothered in crunchy roasted Virginia peanuts. Still doing empire.A great treat to celebrate another brewers victory.
Still have some home made raspberry jam.

10/13,day 39 of living the dream picking apples in Darboy. Good morning Fox Valley. Can life get any better than this?
We are winding down to season's end,but still have apples. Many varieties still available.
Todays featured apple,the candycrisp. This large conical apple with green /yellow skin, is good for eating and baking. It has red delicious parentage and is known for its sweet,pear like flavor. Stop in for a taste.
Honeycrisp,cortland,jonathon,greenie,wolf river,snowsweet,empire,red delicious, yellow delicious,haralred,candycrisp,and northern spy.
Also deer apples,baking apples,seconds and windfalls for sauce.
We still have some home made raspberry jam. Stock up now for winter.
And our world famous caramel apples. Plain or smothered in crunchy roasted Virginia peanuts. A great way to celebrate the Packers and brewers domination. Fun stuff!

10/12,day off. Did a little mowing,and was visited by my brother,sister in law,and 2 family members from Washington state. Haven't seen them in decades,so was nice to shoot some bull.
They were home for my eldest sister Joanns celebration of life. Really nice celebration put on by Joanns son Greg. We still have eleven siblings,from 88 to 69 yrs old, in various stages of aging! Lol.
The orchard is officially day to day. Our apple levels are higher than our ambition levels. Only to be young again. But I did lose 10lbs orcharding?
LAST CALL for Sharkys world famous Caramel apples. Home made caramel on a fresh picked apple,it just dont get any better than that! Plain or smothered in crunchy roasted Virginia peanuts. Only available for a few more days. Don't delay, the end is near!
We still have honeycrisp,cortland,empire,red delicious, snow sweet,haralred, jonathon,golden delicious,and adding candy crisp,and northern spy to the table tommorrow!
Still letting people pick your own,until someone comes back and says,sharky,there's no apples!!

Yesterday a young gal came ready to pick with her apple outfit on. She was all smiles. Mom said she wore it special for the occasion! She was styling. See pic.

Everyone is asking how long we will be open? Good question! Definately thru this weekend,and depending on sales,we will evaluate the situation on Monday!
So,1st last call for our world famous caramel apples. Plain or smothered in crunchy roasted Virginia peanuts. A great way to celebrate our brewers victory.
The macs hit the ground with t@hat wind yesterday. I picked one and 2 would fall. If I got time I'll process some for sauce makers.

Empire apple is a cross between a macintosh and a red delicious. An excellent apple with a tart flavor custom engineered for caramelling.
