Abby was her baddest, cowgirl self yesterday, kicking ass and taking names. She competed riding 3 horses and did an in-hand with Ruby who was being particularly challenging and teenagerish yesterday. She also jumped on a spicy horse for another kid who took off full-tilt with Abby. Abby kept her cool, got the horse back under control, and rode her until she was manageable for her younger, less experienced rider. I love watching this kid work, her fiery self amazes me constantly.

I am *so* freaking proud of this kid. We spent all day yesterday at a show at Rockin R Ranch. He decided to try ride a buck which is a ba****ck competition and he fell off and landed on his shoulder. After dusting himself off he then rode Ziggy on cloverleaf barrels and got second place. Then he got on Misty to do speed barrels and I didn't get his saddle tight enough, so partway through the saddle went sideways and he came off, but his foot was stuck in the stirrup. Misty, being the angel she is, initially stopped. She was clearly stressed and nervous, but she stopped. She was then spooked by the chaos as people tried to intervene and bolted with Sammy still stuck and dragging behind. After what felt like forever Sammy got free and Misty was caught. He was checked over, the saddle was fixed, and he jumped right back on to not only complete a redo of his speed barrel run, but he then did two other runs after. I am so grateful that other than being sore today he was unharmed. And I'm so impressed by his grit and bravery to jump back on excited to keep going after an ordeal like that.
