Wolf Creek Farms Welcome to the Farm! We raise Highlands, Galloways, HighParks, pasture raised pork and lamb! We raise all animals on pasture and wood lots.

We specialize in Highlands, Galloways, Berkshire Pigs, Babydoll and Katahdin Sheep. We sell registered calves, registered pigs as well as unregistered animals. Plus we sell USDA Beef, Pork and Lamb. Our goal is to have our meat be the highest quality while maintaining the way nature intended for the animals to live.

🐮🍂 Another Sweet Day at Wolf Creek Farms! 🐑❤️

Today we welcomed a sweet group for a farm visit that had been rescheduled from yesterday. We normally don’t have visitors during the week, but I figured, why not? We would be there anyway!

The group had two littles about the same ages as my grandbabies, and let me tell you, they had the BEST time feeding the animals! ❤️ There is just something special about watching little ones experience farm animals up close.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a day at Wolf Creek Farms without a little excitement! 😂

First, poor Izzy had an unfortunate encounter with a skunk last night, so she was smelling anything BUT farm fresh! 🦨🤢

Then, while we were all standing around talking, one of the little girls was holding her little bucket when Sinclair managed to touch the hot fence! ⚡🐂 He let out a noise, looking that little girl right in the face, almost like he was telling her all about what just happened! We all got a good laugh out of that one!

These are the little moments that make sharing our farm so much fun. The animals have personalities all their own, and you just never know what they’re going to do next!

🌱 A little farm update: As we begin reseeding our pastures, the cows and sheep will no longer be up top for visits. For now, they’ll be over on Finlay’s side, but they’ll be moving soon too as we work on getting our pastures ready for the next season.

🍁 Once November arrives, we’ll be putting our farm visits on hold until spring!

As we wind down our first season of welcoming visitors, I just want to say THANK YOU! ❤️

Thank you to every family, every little set of hands that fed an animal, every child who giggled, and every person who took time out of their day to come experience a little piece of our life here.

We love these animals, and getting to share them with others has been such a blessing. It’s not always picture-perfect, sometimes it smells like a skunk, and sometimes a cow gets a little surprise from the fence! 😂 But that’s real farm life, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

🍂 FARM TIP: Don’t Wait for the First Freeze to Prepare for Winter! ❄️🐑🐄

September may still feel like fall, but on the farm, winter preparation starts now.

A little work before the cold weather arrives can save a whole lot of frustration when you’re standing outside in January with frozen fingers wondering why you didn’t fix that water line in October. 😂

Here are a few things we’re checking around the farm:

🐄 Livestock: Check body condition now. Animals heading into winter in good condition are better prepared for cold weather. This is also a good time to review your feeding plan and make sure you have adequate hay and minerals.

🌾 Hay: Don’t just count the bales—look at how much your animals actually consume and build in a cushion for a longer or colder winter than expected.

💧 Water: Inspect troughs, hoses, hydrants and water lines. Make repairs now and start planning how you’ll prevent freezing when temperatures drop.

🏚️ Shelter: Walk your barns, sheds and windbreaks. Repair loose boards, roofing and gates before winter storms find the weak spots for you!

🌱 Pastures & Gardens: Give heavily grazed areas some rest when possible. In the garden, consider planting a winter cover crop to protect bare soil, reduce erosion and add organic matter back into the ground.

🧰 Equipment: Service tractors, generators and other equipment while the weather is pleasant. Stock up on the things you always seem to need during the coldest week of the year.

Our biggest farm tip? Prepare for winter while it’s still comfortable enough to enjoy doing it. 😉

Farming teaches you to think a season ahead. What we do in the fall can make a huge difference in the health of our animals, soil and sanity all winter long.

🌱 FARM TIP: Don’t Leave Your Garden Bare This Winter!

As the summer garden starts winding down, it’s tempting to clean everything out and call it a season. But fall is actually the perfect time to give your soil a little TLC.

One of our favorite ways to prep garden ground for winter is planting a cover crop. 🌾

Cover crops can help:

🌱 Protect bare soil from erosion
🌱 Suppress winter and early spring weeds
🌱 Add organic matter back into the soil
🌱 Improve soil structure
🌱 Hold nutrients in place
🌱 Certain crops, like clover and winter peas, can even help add nitrogen to the soil

Good fall cover crop choices include:
• Winter rye — hardy and great for protecting soil
• Crimson clover — beautiful AND beneficial
• Winter peas — a nitrogen-fixing legume
• Oats — easy to establish and often winter-kill, making spring cleanup easier
• Radishes — those big roots can help break up compacted ground

Here in Virginia, September is a great time to start thinking about getting those cover crops planted as garden beds become available.

Instead of looking at an empty garden as being “finished” for the year, think of winter as another growing season—this time, we’re growing better soil.

Healthy soil today means a healthier garden next spring. 🌱

🐷🐑 A Week on the Farm 🌾

Around here, everybody has a job—even the piglets and sheep!

The piglets and sheep have been hard at work clearing and cleaning up new areas, doing what they naturally do best while helping us get more of the farm into usable pasture.

Meanwhile, the boys have been working on a new paddock as we get ready to move the steers and start weaning calves. Fence posts, gates, moving animals, checking water…and probably changing the plan at least once along the way. 😂

It may just look like animals eating grass and boys building fence, but every little project is part of the bigger picture—using our land wisely, improving our pastures, and building a farm that works with the animals instead of against them.

Fall is bringing plenty of changes to Wolf Creek Farms, and there is something pretty satisfying about watching another piece of the plan come together. ❤️
