Big shout out to Hayden our 4-H student from Bell Buckle Tennessee that received our two registered doe giveaway!!! She will be attending the SEKGA sale with her family and be involved in all aspects of the sale!!!

At W and H Kikos it’s not just about the sales, making money, or trying to be the top breeder in the country…. It’s about how we can give back to young farmers and grow the kiko industry for the future. God gives us blessings and we try to pour into the youth so one day they can return a blessing as well. Conflict, aggression, and more sales than available quality livestock is not the answer to building the registered kiko industry back up. We have to invest in the youth and teach them the importance of the breed!!!

At W and H Kikos we are working to retain our own prefix doe’s to strengthen our doe herd. The one thing we like to do is add outside buck genetics! A couple months back we saw ROW Copyrights War Cry and after digging into the genetics on the bottom side we knew he was the perfect cross for our homegrown doe’s we have been retaining out of our SFFL Ten High Terminator buck and our pango/ hammer background mommas. We loaded up headed to the sale and after evaluating War Cry we knew he was going to come home with us. One of the best looking 9 month old bucks we have seen. We were very pleased to be able to be the high bidder this weekend and take him back to north Alabama. Very excited to see him grow and mature!!! Happy Anniversary to my beautiful wife and mother to our precious son. In life there are ups and downs, deep valleys and shallow valleys, rocky roads and smooth roads, but I will promise you I wouldn’t want to take the journey on with any other woman in the world. My wife is strong and has made a lot of sacrifices along the way for us to get where we are now. Me and Levi couldn’t ask for a better woman to keep our butts in line I love you sweetheart!!!!! We rolled a dice and decided to breed for fall babies on our first timers this year. We have worked hard to retain our own prefix and put it to work to ensure they will produce as mothers for other breeders. Kidding will begin in two weeks and we couldn’t be more proud of how this particular doe has grown out she will be kidding at 1 and 1/2 years old as well as the others and they have handled the stress and pressure very well. She is packing triplets which is very rare for our farm and she comes out of one of the smallest doe’s on our farm. If you like what you see keep your eyes open at the NKR spotlight sale May 2025 because the same breeding will be offered there!!! Sire and Dam pictured on the right side!!!

I wanted to say thank you to Brett Mann Double M farms and Timothy Harris for helping me get the older group of doe’s out in with bucks this weekend below you will see the sires we are utilizing this year. We continue to buck test each year we would love to be in all the bucktest but money and time don’t permit in most cases. Proud to say on the Mississippi State Test we had one buck tie for 2nd on ADG and place 16th overall indexing over 100% in all categories but REA (90.40%) . We also had a buck score 14th on FEC index 145.20% on a very tough test he was 32 overall ( he was not well rounded so will go to the meat barn). Our one buck will be available soon I will post pictures of the sire (SFFL Ten High Terminator) and dam ( he is purebred but from great lines with great ADG and well rounded in FEC. Everyone can strategize why their bucks should have done better or the test wasn’t run well but there is still good data for your farm to be learned. I will agree you can have 14% protein in forage but if the bucks won’t eat it they won’t gain weight an adjustment probably could have been made sooner. Also several bucks gained 3 to 6 pounds on the last week of the test which is a little strange to me maybe more pellet was offered along with hay but we were proud to see our buck gain 6 pounds steady throughout the test and 2 pounds the last data collected. On the flip side there can never be a perfect test and it’s hard work to run a test and make the right decisions. We are thankful to be able to test our bucks in other locations to see how they can adapt to different climates, and this allows us to feel confident no matter where we send stock in the USA they will survive and perform.

The white and brown patches up buck(pictured at 2 months old) is the one that will be available PB and he tied for 2nd ADG and finished 16th overall Mississippi State Buck Test……we tested two out of the sire 2023 Test last year they scored well one tied for 3rd ADG and one scored 8th on ADG so he continues to prove he can produce good stock.
