The Foodie Club-Arab, Alabama Reviewing local restaurants and doing it with a POSITIVE attitude! My mother, step-father & I have decided to meet once a week at a local restaurant for lunch.

Each week we will choose a different one. We intend to eat at all the restaurants within the city limits of Arab, AL and the surrounding communities. Although we will be reviewing their fare, any criticism will be gentle. Our intent is not to bash anyone (there's enough negativity in this world already!) but to uplift each business, help them be the best they can be and to remind everyone that we

are very fortunate to have such great places in our little part of the world! Therefore our ratings will only range from A+ to C-. Any truly negative comments will be removed. We will advertise where & when we will be lunching ahead of time and invite you to join us! (No, you do not have to sit with us! LOL but you are always welcome!)
If you have a great little place you'd like us to visit, just tell us where & why you think it's a great place! And if it's a little farther out, that's ok; there's always time for a field trip! And as always, if you have something great to say about any of these places, please feel free to share!

Today, we lunched at Chocolate Indulgence located at 1938 N Brindlee Mountain Pkwy, Arab. They are open 9a-3:30p Tu-Fri.
Decor: down home look, with 5-6 mismatched table & chairs. Very orderly, neat & clean.
Service: very friendly, he sat right down at our table to take our order! LOL He also checked on us several times throughout the meal.
Food: they have a menu with set items to choose from (salads, sandwiches, paninis), as well as a daily special menu. The HOT Plate Special was Southern Goulash, salad & corn. YUM! So good! The Taco Salad was fresh & festive. The Sampler gives you a wedge of sandwich, bowl of soup (Potato today), macaroni salad & grape salad. Always a favorite! And let's not forget dessert: Strawberry Pretzel Salad!! Excellent!
We've confirmed that Chocolate Indulgence will be closing at the end of the year. 😥 Janet, you will truly be missed! So go while you still can & enjoy her fantastic food!

Last week, we lunched at Jack's on HWY 231, Arab. We debated on whether to review fast food chains, but ultimately decided they're part of our city & deserve recognition just like everyone else.
Decor: nice rock fireplace, which is great when it's lit on cold days. The eating area had lots of booths/tables that were clean & ready to go!
Customer Service: as always at Jack's, they were super busy! But they were also friendly & working as fast as possible.
Food: the chicken was crispy, the mac-n-cheese hot-n-cheesy, and the mashed potatoes & green beans flavorfully seasoned. The biscuits, as usual, were buttery & fluffy.
All in all, a very nice lunch!

Today we lunched at El Aguacate Mexican Food, located at 2317 N Brindlee Mountain Pkwy, Arab, AL 35016. Open M-Su 11a-9p. (MENU BELOW).
El Aguacate Mexican Food is located in a strip mall next to Space Age Gas Station. Parking is limited during the day due to the mechanic shop next door, which keeps the lot full. It is a fast casual establishment with a bar and limited outdoor seating.
DECOR: the inside is very fun & festive with plenty of room. Tables, chairs & floor were clean as a whistle! Several TV's on the wall but all muted.
SERVICE: They may have been a little short-handed as we had to request our order be taken, but other than that, they were very attentive & friendly during the meal.
FOOD: the food came out very quickly! This Mexican food is different than the "Americanized" version I'm used to; it was authentic Mexican food. (Excuse me if I misspell any dishes!) I had heard the guacamole was good and they weren't kidding! Very fresh & flavorful! I had the recommended Sopa with Chorizo and enjoyed it. Even though my mother got the kid's plate, the quantity was very substantial. Another member loved her Street Tacos with steak & chorizo.

We lunched at Town and Country Restaurant & Steakhouse located at 2425 N Brindlee Mountain Pkwy, Arab, AL. Open Thurs, Fri & Sun 11a-8p, Saturday 7a-8p.
Decor: log cabin meets industrial vibe. Fast casual dining. Lots of room, clean & colorful with a screened in dining area.
Service: fast & friendly.
Food: very tasty! The chicken livers were "outstanding ", the BBQ potato good, the bacon on the BLT perfectly done & crisp! The Grilled Cheese Burger is a monster- 2 grilled cheese sandwiches with a burger in between! All in all, really good food!
If you haven't tried it or it's been awhile, make plans to stop by & try it out!!

Today we lunched at Burnt Knuckles Grill located at 2433 N Brindlee Mountain Pkwy, Arab, AL 35016. Open T-Fri 11a-8p & Sat 3p-8p. (Menu in pics)
Decor: this is a fast casual restaurant. Very down home vibe with ceiling fans, lots of stained wood paneling & old local newspapers (Arab Tribune) pampering the walls. Very fun & interesting.
Service: we were seated quickly & the waitresses were friendly & helpful. Great service!
Food: So many choices on the menu! They also have a plate lunch: meat & 2 or 3 sides and comes with dessert. Each of us tried something different & were not disappointed! The Smoked Hamburger was smoky & savory, the Salisbury Steak & sides homemade, Chicken & Dumplings and Chicken Fingers flavorful, the Chicken Wings were great & had lots of sauces to choose from. The Steak fries were hot & crispy, seasoned with garlic & salt. All the desserts were homemade & fantastic! So many to choose from but we chose the Butter Pecan cake, Coconut Meringue pie & Peach Cobbler. YUM!!
OVERALL: Great place to eat! Stop in & give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Impromptu review! We were passing by Little Lu's BBQ at Rainbow Crossing after a long day. We've heard several talk about how good it is so we wheeled around & headed back. (Location, hours & menu in pics).
Decor: gonna be totally honest here. It looks like a dive. But some of the best places to eat look like a dive! 😆 It's a hodgepodge grouping of mismatched buildings with windows covered by old road signs. But there were some seasonal decorations that did manage to spruce up the place & shows someone cares. You walk up to place your order & there is some outside seating available.
Decor Rating: B
Customer Service: the young guy at the window was friendly & helpful. After ordering, he gave us a # that was called out when our order was ready. In the truck as I started to check our order to make sure everything was there, he came running up with my chocolate fried pie, completely diverting what would have been a disastrous situation upon arriving at home!
Customer Service Rating: A+
Food: the Smoked Chicken Loaded Potato was excellent; well seasoned with pieces of "bark" (my favorite) & great BBQ sauce. The Pulled Pork Sandwich was moist & had so much flavor, sauce was unnecessary (but much appreciated)! Both plates were plentiful. The desserts were excellent: Chocolate Fried Pie (that cocoa-from-the-stovetop taste that Grandmommy used to make) & slice of Pecan Pie, which we both think were homemade. YUM!
Food: A+
OVERALL RATING: A+
We will definitely be back to try out more of the extensive menu! I understand they have a 2nd location (a Cafe) just up the road which includes the same menu but MORE, with indoor seating, a salad bar & a breakfast menu starting at 5am. We are so glad we finally tried it & u should too. You won't regret it!!
