⚠️ Important Update for Florida Cattle Producers

The USDA has reported a possible New World Screwworm (NWS) case in South Texas. Confirmatory test results are expected soon, and federal, state, and industry partners are actively monitoring the situation.

If a case is confirmed, it could impact:
🔹 Livestock movement
🔹 Inspection and treatment requirements
🔹 Animal identification
🔹 Permitting and documentation

What you can do right now:
✅ Monitor your livestock closely for any signs of NWS
✅ Report any suspected cases to your state veterinarian immediately
✅ Stay informed through official updates at www.screwworm.gov

You’ll often hear a calf described as “weaned”, but what does that mean? 👀

A weaned calf is a calf that is no longer nursing from its mother and has been transitioned to feed, hay, or pasture.

This stage is important because calves that are already weaned are often more adjusted to eating on their own and may handle hauling, sale day, and moving to a new place with less stress. 🐂
