As we wrap up American Cheese Month, we’re celebrating the woman who helped change the way America thinks about goat cheese: Mary Keehn.
Mary, a self-described “serious hippie” and single mom, wanted healthier milk for her kids. After spotting a neighbor’s goats, she was told, “If you can catch ’em, you can have ’em.” She did — luring Esmeralda and Hazel with grain. Two goats quickly turned into many, and with all that extra milk, Mary tried her hand at cheesemaking. The rest is Cypress Grove history. 🧀
