💥Some nights just mean a little more.💥
Tonight I delivered 13 feeder pigs to the Archbold FFA barn for students to feed out this summer, something our family has been proud to support for many years. But standing in that barn tonight with Mr. Ryan Sell (Leading the program for 20 years) and my three boys beside me just hit differently. Maybe it’s because it’s been 23 years since I graduated. Maybe it’s because I now see this program through the eyes of a parent and not just a former student.
That red barn is more than a building. It represents generations of education, opportunity, hard work, and community support. Dedicated in memory of former ag teacher Ron Stuckey, this barn and memorial fund have continued investing into local youth for the past 25 years. Because of that vision, countless students have learned responsibility, agriculture, animal care, leadership, and life lessons that can’t be taught from a textbook.
This Friday, the Archbold FFA Chapter students will welcome elementary students for Ag Day, giving many of those kids their very first hands-on experience with livestock and agriculture. For some of them, it will be the first time they pet a lamb, hold a chick, or stand face to face with a hog. Those moments may seem small, but they create understanding, appreciation, and memories that can last a lifetime.
As I looked around that barn tonight, I couldn’t help but think about how many lives have been impacted inside those walls over the years. To have been a small part of this project over two decades ago, and to still play a role in it today alongside my own children, is something I’m truly grateful for.
Agriculture is built on tradition, mentorship, and people willing to pour into the next generation. Tonight was a reminder that the work being done in barns like this still matters.
Special Thanks to all of the AG Teacher's that have been a part of this journey the last 25 years and helped provide a way to honor Ron Stuckey and better the agriculture experience for Archbold Area Schools youth!!
