If something is organic, does that mean it’s never sprayed?
It depends on what you mean by “sprayed.” If you are referring to powerful synthetic pesticides/herbicides/fungicides like Glyphosate, Dicamba, or Sevin, then no. Organic growers do not use man-made toxins like these. However, organic standards allow for the use of sprays made from natural materials such as vinegar, baking soda, pyrethrins (insecticides derived from marigolds), insecticidal soaps, kaolin clay, neem oil, etc. These “sprays” are all naturally derived and are generally much weaker than sprays used in “conventional” agriculture.
