A week full of adventures and hard work.
We loaded our first steer of the year up to head to the butcher. We’ve been setting traps trying to catch a raccoon that’s tormenting our chickens.
Logan’s been telling me how to build the turkey mobile.

But we have been able to munch on some porterhouse pork chops, which look better than most steaks, so I won’t complain.

*Ground Chicken

*Ancestral Blend Ground Chicken - this grind is becoming popular for its health benefits of using organ meats. Ground chicken plus liver, hearts and skin; all the benefits without the individual taste.

*Chicken Sausage - “Southern” flavor including black and red pepper. Just a little kick. Perfect for tacos, soups and more.

And we truly appreciate our partnership with Dn’A Farms. We both do not plan on settling. In our forever quest of breeding the perfect pig, Dena and Andrew are determined to raise the best chicken breed.

We started out selling their Freedom Ranger chicken breed. And we are now stocking Kosher Kings.

Kosher Kings are a cross between Barred Rocks and Sussex breeds and are renowned for their meat quality.

Guys - We tell you all of this because we want YOU to have some ownership too. To know what you’re putting on your dinner table for YOUR FAMILY should be as much your responsibility as it is your farmers.

To know what a heritage breed is, to know the true cost of food, to have an opinion of what you are putting in your mouth. Let’s learn about food together.

And I hope you know, if you ever have questions on the production of an animal or a cut of meat, or how store bought chicken can be so inexpensive, you can ask us. Don’t be shy….we aren’t. 😉

Can you guess where the coop has been the last 4 moves?

It’s amazing the positive impact the chicken coop has on the pasture. The grass is lush and thick there it has been, and as we come back through on the same patches we will put the coop on a different spot within the space and it will eventually be one big green field full of life, fertility, organic matter, and microbial life!

EASY, tasty drum stick recipe.
Thaw your 6 pack of Dn’A farms drumsticks.
Preheat oven to 400.
Mix your 1/2 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce, 1/4 cup brown sugar, garlic powder to taste, and 1 TBSP Dijon mustard.
Place your Viking sticks on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Baste before putting in oven for 20 minutes. Flip at 20 minute mark and baste again continuing to cook for 17 minutes. With three minutes left baste one last time if you like them really wet and sticky, or skip and use reserved sauce for dipping if you so choose.

Remove from oven and appreciate this incredibly under appreciated cut of chicken!
