Grass fed/grass finished beef tallow cooling.
Fog on the pasture.
It would be a lovely day to visit the Mid City Farmers Market (and I hope you do!) but Free Hearts Farm is going to have to miss you all today. If you've heard the expression, "Lord willin' and the creek don't rise," you probably have an idea of what the combination of heavy rain and beaver dams would do to low lying pastures. I hope you all have a lovely Sunday and we'll see everyone the Sunday after Easter at the Mid City Market!
Keeping an eye on the weather for tomorrow’s Mid City Farmers Market. Stay tuned.....
Aren’t the pink turnip pickles pretty???
Come see us today at the Farmer’s Market at MidCity Huntsville
2 to 6 pm
Sourdough rye bread.
Cookies tomorrow at Mid City Market!
Sometimes the good guys win after all.
I am seeking help to cover my legal expenses in defense of a suit brought against me by a neighborhood Trust. The Trust is making me take down my brand new barn, fences and livestock equipment and remove my livestock even though I live in the county (Metes and Bounds) my deed specifically allo...
Imagine what would happen if we all did this?
Come see us today at the Camp Market (where Madison Square Mall used to be.) I made granola, fudge, brownies, marmalade, pickles, sourdough cheese crackers, and some other goodies and farmstead products including eggs, lard and milk. We also have fabulous grass fed & grass finished beef and pasture raised natural pork from Todd Rowland at YK Farm.
Thug chicken alert. Be on the lookout for a band of marauding hens and their lawless roo leader. May frequently be found wherever they please.
Spring is coming!!!
Today’s inaugural Farmer’s Market hosted by the Camp at Mid-City is postponed due to weather. We hope to see you there next week.
I’ll be bringing this pretty Blood Orange Marmalade I put up yesterday and homemade bread too, so come see me next Sunday. This is so yummy, like a little bit of sunshine. It’ll be worth the trip.
My thug chickens go where they want led by this guy, an Ayam Cemani rooster. I will have some eggs for the farmer’s market from my lawless free ranging hens, but be advised eating eggs from thug chickens may give you an attitude.
The peach trees are blooming, hope the cold snap coming doesn’t get ‘em!
We’re excited to join the Camp’s Market at Mid City starting this Sunday, 2pm to 6pm. In addition to the great grass fed/grass finished beef and pasture raised pork, I’ll be getting back into the kitchen to bring some yummy wholesome goodies from our farm to your table. The first thing I want you to try is the Buttermilk Fudge. It’s creamy and caramely and completely addictive. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!!
Know your farmer.
With the reclassification, you may now be purchasing ground beef with added 'ground beef'
Eat more pasture raised pork!
It's in the top 10 along with chia seeds and almonds.
Baby bull, Ayrshire and mini Hereford cross born on Memorial Day. That face!!!!
New update...but no good news yet.

The Madison City Farmer’s Market will NOT open tomorrow due to the threat of inclement weather. YK Farms will see everybody next week. Stay safe
As some of you may know, I've been under siege for some time from a Trust that sued me for having a barn and livestock on my property here in Madison county, near Huntsville AL. Because my deed specifically allowed for the barn and livestock, I never imagined that I could have lost this case. But I did, because I had no idea what a sordid morass of "home cooking" I was getting sucked into. There has never been an off ramp and now over $60,000 in I have no choice but to keep going to get the case heard before the Alabama Supreme Court. If you have ever been appalled at some gross legal injustice and wondered what you could do to help, I would sure appreciate some support. This has been a lonely soul-crushing experience and it's far from over. Please read more below and help if you can. The cows and pigs and chickens and I all thank you.

It really is better.
A lot of people today, horrified by how animals are treated in factory farms and feedlots, and wanting to lower their ecological footprint, are looking for healthier alternatives. As a result, there is a decided trend toward pasture-raised animals. One former vegetarian, San Francisco Chronicle co…
