My heart is so heavy. We lost 13 chickens last night. I got a terrible honeybee sting and my arm is having a horrible reaction. (I’ve never had a reaction. It was from our new bees we got in the spring.) In the chaos of it all, I forgot to close up the coop last night. Either a fox, raccoon, or coyote came and took them. Brady went up to feed them this morning and a giant snake was in the box. This explains why we havent had any eggs the last 2 days. We only have 5 hens left. So a mid summer hatch is starting. The homestead life isn’t easy.

Well this past week has been an interesting week on the homestead…

1. Bees have been tortured with all the rain. They are struggling to produce honey (from all the beenkeeping pages I follow, this year’s honey is a bust). I’m praying we get some, but we haven’t checked on them. The plan is to do that this week. I know we’ve lost one hive to beetles 😭🐝🍯

2. Tree fell on goat/chicken pen.

3. Something has taken 6 of our baby chicks. ❤️‍🩹

4. A wild pig was on the property at 3am destroyed Moms plants on her porch. 🐗

5. Blackberries are ripening!🫙

6 Garden is producing! Thank you Lord! 🥬🥒

7. Elderberries are flowering!

All this to say, the next few weeks we will be busy around here. Kids at camps, chores to be done…. Here’s to a break from socials to focus on priorities. I wonder how all the instagram pages keep up with it all. For me social media is a distraction these days, so I’m going to set it aside for a bit. Plus it’s summer and I want to enjoy it with the kids. ✌️☀️

Stay tuned!
