Oak Springs Farm

Oak Springs Farm Our little piece of heaven. Hard work, sheep, chickens, and lots of love.

In early 2016, George said "I think we have enough in savings for a downpayment on the retirement home." Somewhere between then and December 2016, the house hunt turned into a farm hunt, and the next thing we knew we had bought 25 acres of rolling pasture and neat little outbuildings. Before the papers were even signed, Karen had acquired our first two sheep; who spent the winter in an old corn cr

ib while we prepared the barn. We've since expanded to 30+ sheep, five cats, two bunnies, four ducks, two-dozen chickens and more on the way. We also started a little B&B (minus the breakfast) in our over-the-barn refurbished loft. Our animals love all the visitors, and we are excited about expanding the business to full on-the-farm get-aways, with classes, work-study programs, and sheep-related product sales.

And with Cloudy’s successful delivery of a 15.98lb ram lamb, Lambapalooza 2026 comes to a close. Twenty three lambs this year, with a nice mix of ewes and rams. Only one major episode with a miracle survivor. We will post more photos and stories from the week a bit later. But right now, it’s time for some shuteye. Good night, friends.

Crazy busy day on the farm today: 60 sheep peeled, new feeders built to make sure mommas are getting enough hay and grain, and CD/T vaccines given to everyone. Thanks to all our helpers today. We really appreciate the assist. Now the shepherds are out of juice and going to bed. Lambing starts in a couple of weeks, so we’re getting as much rest as we can now!

Truck dog! Every dog at the farm has a different personality and a different activity that excites them. For Hope, the rough collie, it’s playtime and nap time by the woodstove. For Velma, it’s sitting on the hill barking at everything. For Pete, it’s exploring and keeping an eye on the sheep. But for Hiccup… it’s the truck. He’s always excited to go for a ride.
