[BÚN THANG - CHICKEN VERMICELLI NOODLE SOUP]

Bún Thang is one of the most complicated dishes to make but its origin is leftover food from Lunar New Year parties. Lunar New Year or Tết is the biggest holiday in Vietnam, it's similar to Christmas in America. During these days, people make a lot of food to celebrate, and by the end of the holiday, it's so much leftover that people have to find a way to "recycle" them, and that was how Bún Thang was "invented". People will cut up all the leftovers (mostly chicken, fried eggs, hams, and shrimp) and then assemble them and top with some fresh herbs to make the dish look more appealing.

Despite its humble origin, Bún Thang is elegant, delicious, delightful, well balanced and hearty 💯💯💯

Happy December! This is the menu for Wednesday (12/7) and Thursday(12/8) pickups!

I come back this week with a brand new dish on the menu - Bun Thang (Chicken Vermicelli Noodle Soup) - one of Hanoi's signature dishes that I have never seen any restaurants in America offer. There is nothing more satisfying than a hot bowl of noodles on a cold day in December.

And for this month only, there will be a free cup of Milk Tea for any pre-order over $35!

I can't wait for all of you to try my food!!! Thank you

[BÚN RIÊU - MINCED CRAB VERMICELLI NOODLE SOUP]

To most Vietnamese, Pho and Banh Mi are their favorite/go-to dishes, but for me, Bún Riêu is absolutely my soul, I can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner, 3 times a days, 7 days a week, that's how much I love this dish 😍😍😍

Even though it doesn't take overnight to cook a perfect bone broth like Pho, it does take a lot of time to open every single crab, pick out the crab-egg part, mince the crab, filter the shell out and cook up the crab meat to perfect since we will need the tiny fresh-water crab for this dish 🦀🦀🦀 The savory and sour soup, with soft crab meat chunks and chewy fried tofu, served with fresh vermicelli noodle and topped with crunchy fried onion and fresh herbs, trust me, it's a must try!

[BÁNH CUỐN - STEAM CREPE]

Bánh cuốn is a classic breakfast dish for Vietnamese because it's easy to find and quick to eat yet tasty and filling. The way to make this steam crepe is not simple so it's rare to make it yourself at home, but we can find it literally everywhere: if you want a quick cheap breakfast, ladies with her bamboo basket filled with pre-made bánh cuốn and other ingredients on the side of the road always there; but if you want it fresh-made and steaming hot, small restaurants around the corner sure can satisfy your crave 👌👌👌

Some people just simply dip the steam crepe into fish sauce, some have it with side dishes like Vietnamese hams or mung beans or herbs (like in the picture), some even have it with egg filling instead of classic fillings (just mushroom or mushroom and pork). But no matter how you eat it, it's always the quickest and most satisfying breakfast I have ever had 🤤🤤🤤

[CHÁO CÁ - FISH CONGEE]

Cháo (congee) is one of the most satisfying dishes to have on a cold day like today. The soup-ish texture of tasty congee combines with flavorful meat (like pork and chicken) or seafood (like fish or shrimp), fresh herbs (like green onion, cilantro and perilla) and crunchy fried onion sure will convince anyone 🤤🤤🤤

This is the only thing I want to eat when I'm sick and don't have an appetite for anything. And magically, after I eat a bowl of congee, which is always loaded with green onion and perilla and a pinch of black pepper, I will feel so much better immediately! My mom said it's a Vietnamese fork method to cure sickness, and apparently, it works! 😉😉😉

[FAMILY DINNER]

What I miss the most about Vietnam is family time when the whole family will gather and have dinner together every night after work, not holidays or special occasions but everyday.

All dishes will be placed in the middle, each person has one rice bowl, everyone picks food on the way instead of having a whole plate filled with food. We will talk about what happened during the day, sometimes we just eat and watch TV together, sometimes not even talk or watch anything, just spend time with family, and it's the most beautiful thing about our food culture, eating and sharing food together ❤️

This picture is one of the last meals I had with my host family, there were only 3 of us but it was always like a party ❤️

[BÁNH TRÁNG NƯỚNG - VIETNAMESE PIZZA?]

People here call it Vietnamese Pizza (I don't know why, maybe because it looks like pizza somehow?), but the rough translation for this dish is Grilled Rice Paper. I know it sounds weird, but it's always hard to find an English name for our food that can actually represent the dish.

Banh Trang Nuong is very easy to make with all familiar ingredients like rice paper, eggs, sausage, and mayo along with some other Asian ingredients, but it's super delicious and fulfilling, especially in a cool or cold day out like these last couple days 🤤🤤🤤

[CHÈ ĐẬU ĐEN - BLACK BEAN SWEET SOUP]

It may sound weird to some people that we use black beans to make dessert, but this dish is actually one of the oldest and most popular desserts in Vietnam that you can easily find at small pop-up stores on the side of streets. It is super easy to make but at the same time takes a lot of time to cook to perfect.

Chè đậu đen is normally served with glass jelly and coconut milk, sometimes with shredded coconut meat or dried coconut meat and some banana extract. But however it is served, it's always so satisfying and refreshing 🤤🤤🤤

[BÚN BÒ NAM BỘ - STIR FRIED BEEF WITH VERMICELLI NOODLE]

Fun fact: translating word by word, this dish's name is Southern Dried Beef Vermicelli Noodle. Even though it has the word "Southern" in its name, Bún Bò Nam Bộ was 100% "born" in Hanoi (North Vietnam).

This dish was first sold on Nam Bo street (Le Duan street nowadays) in the 80s, with simple components that are grilled beef, vermicelli noodle, fresh veggies and served with sweet & sour fish sauce. Some modifications were added to adapt people's taste such as stir-fried instead of grilled beef, carrot pickles added for sour flavor, steamed mung beans added for the freshness, and peanuts and fried onions added for the crunch 👌👌👌 Despite of the name, this is one of the most Northern dishes you must try visiting Hanoi or Vietnam 🤤🤤🤤
