There is never any doubt of why my bees sting me. Because I make these videos of them. LOL Education time! This is called Washboarding. It is still elusive to scientists of why the bees do this. There is a lot of speculation, but no concrete scientific reason. This video is not sped up, this is in real time behavior. Washboarding behavior is most prevalent in workers aged 15-25 days old. And Washboard activity increases from 8am to 2pm and may keep up that momentum until 9pm. I hope they keep the music down so they don't upset the neighbors. As I pulled into the yard, I could hear 'Imma Be' by the Black Eyed Peas blasting from their Bose speakers.

Hope everyone is fairing well with the heat! We will be rolling out a few new products in the next couple weeks. One will be an exclusive item that can only be bought in one of our partner stores. But there will be some added benefits of that.

Another item we will be rolling out will be something that has been requested fairly often. It will have a seasonal aspect to it with some pretty cool options. It will have a great gift giving spin to it as well.

Once these products become available, we will post details and pictures. We are constantly evaluating customer requests. As we make EVERYTHING except honey straws, we also evaluate value of current and future products. You will start to see some items become only seasonal as we try to keep up with demand on so many products.

Comb honey is still a little ways out. With the very wet spring and lots of forage blooming early (some as much as 3 weeks), the bees have not been as willing to put honey up into the honey supers (where we get our honey from). We have been in contact with 3 commercial beekeepers and about 10 sideliner beekeepers who are also reporting the same. One commercial operator said that he expects this to be a dismal year for honey crops. Time will tell.

This is why I love swarms on the ground or really close. I set the hive right next to them and as soon as they realize what it is, they practically run to go in. No persuasion to go in.

What does opening day mean to the vendors? It’s getting back together with other vendors that you have built friendships and comradery with. It’s seeing your customer base after a long winter. For a vendor, it carries the excitement of first game day. Or even an opening event for the outdoor enthusiast. Come check us out and our new products. Be sure to check out all the vendors, but especially our friends at STR8 JUICE , Three Step Acres Farmstand, and The Little Brick Farm and Bakery!

There’s something special about opening day at the McComb Farmers Market.

This market is built on community. Every purchase supports local families, every visit strengthens connections, and every second Saturday reminds us of why small towns matter. We are proud to kick off another season of supporting local, creating memories, and celebrating everything that makes McComb feel like home❤️

Here’s to a season full of good food, fresh produce, familiar faces, and community spirit. We can’t wait to see you at the market! 🌱

There is a saying that to be successful, you need to surround yourself with good people. I feel that we accomplish that with our landowners, farmers markets, stores and our customers. All top notch! But a silent behind the scenes person that really needs a shout out is our Maple Equipment Dealer, Nathan. We recently got our new to us maple evaporator in the barn and ready for reassembly. So we thought. Nathan visisted the farm on Monday to check out the new set up. Even though the evaporator made syrup before being torn down for travel, Nathan and us found a few problems. Nathan spent almost 2 hours with us, going over how the rig operates, changes needed for efficiency and changes needed for quality. Keep in mind, this set up did not come from Nathan. He is more concerned with HIS customers making good quality products. Yes, he likes to sell equipment. But quality in his eyes will always supercede him making a buck. That is the sign of a solid rep in our corner. I am beyond stoked to have him standing behind us. With his help, Jessica and I are developing a plan to put in motion to get this aspect of our operation going. A lot of work ahead of us. I'll try to get some pictures along the way and show some of the workings of the evaporator. Even though we are not friends on Facebook, we want to give a shout out to Nathan and his willingness to teach. With him in our corner, I am confident that we will continue to have a good product. If you hear us talking about how we go North at the end of our maple season to hang out and learn at a bigger maple operation, it is Nathan's sugar house where we go.

It’s roll out day!!! Today we rolled out 3 new products! Chai Creamed Honey and for our 4 legged customers, a Dog Nose Balm and Dog Paw Balm. A question from our dear friends at Thistle Exchange got the ball rolling for this new balm line. We are pretty stoked about these for a couple reasons. First, like our lip balms, we kept the ingredients simple. No petroleum based ingredients and no filler ingredients. Secondly, because we keep it simple (and better), we can keep the price point lower than like products. Including what you can find on Amazon! All 3 items can be purchased at Thistle Exchange or from us directly. We will have these at the upcoming farmers markets.
