📸🐔 Apparently the paparazzi are back at TE&A Hatchery…

Every time I pull out the camera, I get the same looks:

“Seriously?”
“Again?”
“Do I get any privacy around here?”
“Did you at least bring treats?”
“And WHO approved this close-up?!” 😂

I’m starting to think the flock may be organizing a formal complaint. They’re demanding fewer pictures, more snacks, and absolutely NO unauthorized photos before they’ve had time to fluff their feathers. 🤣

Unfortunately for them… when you’re this photogenic, privacy is hard to come by. 📸🐓❤️

🚨🐔 **WELCOME TO MONDAY!** 🐔🚨

Well… the week has officially started, and we’re already trying to figure out what kind of emergency response is appropriate. 😂

☕ Do we need coffee?
🚒 Do we need firefighters?
🔥 Or should we just go ahead and declare the whole week a controlled burn?

Around here, the chickens are staring at us like, **“This sounds like a human problem.”** 🤣🐓

Whatever Monday throws at you, grab the biggest cup of coffee you can find, keep your sense of humor close, and remember—we’ve got five whole days to get this under control! 😳☕🔥

🎥🐔 Caught in 4K…and suddenly forgot how to chicken! 😂

One second, our Cream Legbar was happily scratching and pecking around without a care in the world. Then I put the camera in front of her and she immediately looked like she had no idea what to do next:

“Should I keep pecking? Look at the camera? Walk away? Is this my good side?” 🤔😂

Then I turned the camera toward a few of the other chickens—and apparently stage fright is contagious! They all froze, stared, and quietly moved along like they hadn’t signed up to be in today’s video.

They’re all natural comedians…right up until the camera starts rolling! Does your flock suddenly forget how to act when you start recording?

🐔✨ BREED SPOTLIGHT: BLACK COPPER MARANS ✨🐔

If you want a chicken that brings beauty, history, and unmistakable color to your egg basket, the Black Copper Marans is difficult to beat!

Originating near the historic port town of Marans on France’s Atlantic coast, this impressive breed is best known for laying large, richly colored eggs ranging from reddish brown to deep chocolate. Those beautiful eggs make an incredible addition to any farm-fresh egg basket—but the Black Copper Marans offers much more than egg color alone.

🥚 Why we love Black Copper Marans:

• Beautiful dark chocolate-russet eggs
• Striking black plumage with rich copper accents
• Gorgeous green sheen when sunlight catches their feathers
• Strong, solid build with traditional farm-bird character
• A practical dual-purpose breed valued for both eggs and meat
• Lightly feathered legs and outer toes
• A fascinating French heritage
• An outstanding choice for adding beauty and variety to a backyard or breeding flock

The males are especially impressive, displaying deep copper coloring across the head, neck, back, and saddle against a mostly black body. The hens have an elegant black appearance highlighted by beautiful copper-colored neck feathers. Standard adult weights are approximately 8 pounds for roosters and 6½ pounds for hens.

The Black Copper variety was officially accepted into the American Poultry Association’s Standard of Perfection in 2011. Serious breeders carefully select not only for proper body structure and plumage, but also for the rich egg color that makes the Marans breed so famous.

🐔🥚 ARNOLD FRIENDS—WE NEED YOUR INPUT! 🥚🐔

We’re considering opening a small self-service TE&A Hatchery farm stand at the end of our road here in Arnold, Maryland, and we want to stock it with things our neighbors would actually enjoy and use!

Our starting ideas include:

🥚 Farm-fresh eating eggs—possibly $5 per dozen
🐣 Breed-specific hatching eggs—available fresh by preorder, with prices depending on the breed
🍪 Homemade cookie packs made by my daughter
🧁 Homemade muffin packs made by my daughter

Payment would be easy, with Venmo and Zelle QR codes available to scan at the stand. We may also add a secure cash option if enough people would use it.

Now we need your help!

👉 What other products would make you stop at a roadside farm stand?
👉 Would you buy fresh bread or mini loaves, brownies, jams or jellies, local honey, fresh herbs, seasonal produce, flower bouquets, seedlings or something else?
👉 What cookie and muffin flavors would you want?
👉 Would prices like 2 large cookies for $4, 6 for $10, 2 muffins for $6 or 4 muffins for $10 sound fair?
👉 Would you prefer daily self-service, weekend-only restocking or preorders for pickup?
👉 Would you rather pay with Venmo, Zelle or cash?

Please comment with what you would actually buy and what you believe would be a fair price. We would much rather ask our community and build the stand around what our neighbors want than simply guess! 😊

🐔 What are the chickens up to today?

Just another busy day around the flock—scratching through the leaves, exploring the yard, visiting with friends, and stopping by the camera for a few close-ups! Everyone seems to have their own little agenda, but they’re all enjoying another beautiful day outside. ☀️🌳

There’s never a dull moment when you have chickens! Which member of the flock caught your eye? 🐓❤️

🐥 Baby Chick & Flock Update! 🐥

Our broody mama and her three little chicks are doing great! The babies are staying close to Mom while they explore, learn their way around, and begin getting acquainted with the rest of the flock. Mama is keeping a watchful eye on every move they make. ❤️🐔

We also have ten Light Brahma chicks that have officially graduated from supplemental heat! They’ve moved into the small coop, where they can safely adjust to their new surroundings and get used to the sights and sounds of the adult flock before they are fully integrated.

Lots of growing, exploring, and new adventures happening around TE&A Hatchery! We’ll keep everyone updated as both groups continue settling in. 🐣🌿

We made it through the work week, and the flock is officially clocking out and flapping into the weekend! The hens are ready to party—although they’ll still report for egg duty tomorrow morning. 😂🥚
