A & J Sundown Pygmies

A & J Sundown Pygmies Show and Pet NPGA Registered Pygmies available. Please call or email for more information. Welcome to A&J Sundown Pygmies.

We are a Daughter/Mom duo raising Pygmy goats on our small family farm. Years of experience raising sheep, pigs, and cattle have led us to starting our little herd of NPGA Pygmies. With deep family roots involved in 4-H and FFA and raising quality livestock we have truly found our calling. We are so excited to be sharing our love for Pygmies and offering quality pet and show Pygmy Goats for sale.

Follow us on our journey and even if you are not in the market for a new goat we hope our posts will brighten your day and put a smile on your face.

Okay my Pygmy Goat People:)) Please don’t forget about the Open show with showmanship put on by the Santa Barbara County Fair @ the Santa Maria Fairpark on 7/7. They are working out the details to get classes to fit an open show platform so thanks for being patient!! The sanction paperwork is submitted and taken care of . Write it in your calendars because it is a for sure and awards have been ordered and I will share the link to enter hopefully by next week. This is their first year and want to make sure it is a great success so we can continue on into the future:) Again it will be in easy load in and load out the same day with beautiful coast weather and Karen Crawford and Robin Norman will be our judges. On a side note the Master class entries will be accepted day of the show as long as there are enough for each, so just message me if you would like to participate and I will verify numbers before you arrive.

This is perfectly said and really honestly the truth… Shared from another Friends/ Breeders page. These goats truly mean so much to us and we don’t breed them to make money we are lucky to break even we do it because we can only hope they bring as much joy to others as they do to us .

HOW MUCH FOR A PYGMY?

Let me say a few words to you, yes you, the person who sends a text to just ask for the price. The person who calls and hears the price and says “I can buy a cheaper goat somewhere else”. I'll talk to you too; the person who doesn't care about papers because I want “just a pet".

No registered goat is “just a pet"

Behind every purebred goat is a BREEDER. I use capital letters to distinguish a breeder from an animal factory for lack of a better word. A serious breeder does not breed goats without documents that protect the integrity of the breed.

Registration papers are records of ancestry documenting the bloodline and enabling you to investigate possible health problems in your lineage.

When you tell a breeder you don't care about the papers, just tell them you don't care about the goats’s health, you just want the cheapest thing you can find!

If you choose to buy a goat from a reputable and quality breeder, this breeder is responsible for every goat’s health.

This breeder will skip vacations, make vacations out of judging trips, miss sleep, and most of their personal time is dedicated to their goats and their well being. The truly passionate breeder, who loves what they breed, puts all of their time into it. Not only for goats that are sold, but also for every customer who owns a piece of their heart (!) and is now a member of their large family.

A breeder will get his hands dirty, often covered in everything that comes with birth. Because that's what life is all about... in the midst of birth and death is life. The wheel that keeps spinning. A breeder conducts ultrasounds, analytics, emergency vet calls, vaccinations, registrations, researches pedigrees, deworming, hoof trims and provides the base start for the future of the goat in handling, breeding and showing.

Last but not least, a breeder CHOOSES the family who is lucky enough to have one of their goats. Yes, you read correctly. Because some of us have learned the hard way!

A real breeder chooses who they sell to.
There really is no compensation that can offset the investment a breeder has made.
A good breeder has other criteria for those who want to continue their bloodline, why? Because breeding isn't a responsibility to take lightly, it's a lifestyle choice reserved ONLY for the few devoted people willing to sacrifice.

Since a goat is never “just a pet” he/she is the legacy of the breeder, a little boy’s best friend, a caretaker of a little girl, therapy for the elderly, a member of the family, someone's whole world!

Worth sharing with so much truth in this article. Responsible breeding and possession of many goats is a lifestyle and commitment many cannot understand.

7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Our lives revolve around the goats - LITERALLY!

** Update Both Does SOLD** First doe available is Karma she has kidded for us 3 times I believe and we are keeping a retaining a second doe from her and a possible very good buck potential. She is a great mom and an easy kidder. I am posting pictures of her before she kidded and now after just recently weaning her kids. She is one you can show as well as make some pretty babies with .

Second doe was a twin her name is Zoe and we don’t need both her and her sister so she is available and crazy friendly ! It makes parting with her hard because she is the first one in your lap and is craving attention. She will make a perfect little show/breeding doe.

Both are available now and as I had mentioned will be in Porterville on 3/28 and other shows coming up. Please message or call with any questions .

03/17/2026

We are going to be listing possibly 4 does for sale very soon so if you are on our list we will reach out to you but if it has been awhile please feel free to reach out again. We will be attending the Sequoia Pygmy goat show in Porterville on 3/28. The first was born on 11/6/2025 , the other two were born 3/2/2025 and 3/6/2025 and the last one was born 10/30/2022 . All NPGA registered. They are all grey agoutis and as soon as I get some time I will post pics .
