Ironbound Farm is a diverse farm and orchard producing vegetables, flowers, herbs, berries, cider apples, meat, and eggs dedicated to regenerative agriculture, workforce development, protection of natural resources, and food security in the NJ Highlands. This drew generation after generation of immigrants seeking new work and the better life it would inevitably bring. And, although the nation has
shifted away from a manufacturing economy, Newark’s basic productive capacity remains—undervalued but intact. Utilizing Newark’s natural capital and rich history, New Ark Farms aims to reestablish the “maker” economy that once made this city thrive. We envision Newark returning to a central place in the economy, cultural life, and ecological repair of the region that surrounds it. This means enabling local people who have stuck with the city to access the necessary resources and developmental opportunities to advance their lives and livelihoods in place. Imagine a new national center for Locavore Manufacturing! Our Partners:
It not only matters what we make, but how we make it. Regardless of product, we must have a positive impact on the environment and the community that we serve. Our commitment lies in providing living wages to those most underserved and undervalued in our present day economy. To do so, we have partnered with The Prodigal Sons & Daughters Redirectional Services (http://prodigalsite.org/) a well-recognized Newark non-profit organization developed by ex-offenders with the mission to take so called “high-risk” former offenders and raise them from social liabilities to social assets. PSD is the source of our employees, and together we have created a workforce development curriculum that educates our employees in areas such as character development, fiscal literacy, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
