Lots and lots to be thankful for this holiday season⭐️
An exciting and adventurous year full of
- Getting Married!💍
- Deciding to quit my town job and farm full time with Ben creating Hazelcross Farm🚜
- Adding a pup (Rip) to our dog pack🐾
- Raising our first batch of 300 meat birds and sold out to our friends, family and our amazing community🐓
- Giving birth to our beautiful baby boy August in a whopping 2 hours❤️
- Started investing in real estate🏘️
- Breaking ground on building our very first home to grow my passion of homesteading and being self sufficient👩🏼🌾
So thankful for my two boys and I can’t wait to see what the future brings! ⭐️❤️

My name is August Kenneth Weinreis and I turned 1️⃣ month yesterday!! I love to sleep like my daddy (mouth breather🤣), make mommy and daddy change my wet diapers every 10 minutes😝, and spend all my time outside! Mommy and daddy love me so much and tell me they can’t picture life without me! I can’t wait to grow up on the farm and ask mommy and daddy to buy me every farm animal🐰🐷🐮🐔❤️

So, we have this chicken. Now what separates Hazelcross Farm pastured poultry from chicken at your local grocery store?
Our pastured poultry were raised in a housing unit called a chicken tractor (picture above) after the initial 2 weeks spent in the brooder. A brooder is equipped with heat lamps, bedding, food and water! When moved out to the pasture, they were housed in the chicken tractor. This structure had shade and protection along with an open floor so the birds could access the grass, forage, bugs etc. in the pasture.
The purpose behind raising pastured poultry is to give these chickens a more natural environment, forage to graze on, and access to fresh bedding. Ben and I moved the chicken tractors everyday for 4 weeks and twice daily for the last 2 weeks. Rather than being confined to one stationary building with limited sunlight and forage, this method gives the chickens a way of life as nature intended.
Although these chickens can’t survive strictly on forage, bugs, and grass; we supplemented them with NON GMO feed. They were never given hormones or antibiotics.
We refer to this practice of farming as “beyond organic”

We want to thank everyone who has followed along on this journey and supported us in any way! With this being our first round a few things have changed now that we have the chicken back from the butcher! For those of you who have given me your order of chicken and live out of town from SWMO, we are working on the shipping logistics and will get the meat to you in a timely manner!
Ben and I ask for patience from you all as this is our first time and plans don’t always go as planned (life on the farm😆) and we will be expecting a baby any day now!💙

- We do not have chicken legs but they were replaced with drumsticks🍗
- We did do some adjustments to the whole bird pricing due to us having several sizes.

The day is here!!! It’s BUTCHER DAY!! The first pastured poultry butcher day in the history of Hazelcross farms! How bittersweet🥰
Looking back at this journey brings so much joy to Ben and I’s heart! We learned more than you can imagine from raising these birds the past 8 weeks! We had good days and bad days but today is a great day! We raised nearly 150 meat birds (me pregnant in my 2nd and 3rd trimesters😅) in a natural way out on pasture! They were exposed to fresh grass, sunlight, breeze, bugs, and never given antibiotics or hormones! All natural, healthy, high quality meat! What an amazing experience this has been and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us!

We are officially 2 weeks away from the chickens only bad day!!
This has been such an amazing and challenging experience all in one! Ben and I learned so much and have really enjoyed raising these chickens! ⭐️
With that being said we are taking orders for whole chickens and the different cuts now‼️Although it is limited supply we will be getting more in late July and even more next year!!! How exciting!!😆

Taking a little bit of time to look at these pictures reminded me of a few things… Holy crap, I have a smokin’ hot wife.. 🔥Not only is she beautiful but also so loving, caring and EXTREMELY patient with me, & also a great boss! 😜God blessed me with the best and I am forever grateful to have you Emma Lou! This past weekend I was able to shower this wonderful human and my sweet nephew! It has been such a blessing going through this season of life with my sister and sister in law!

It has officially been 1 whole week with the chickens out on the pasture! In the past week Ben and I have learned so much and are so beyond excited to be sharing this chicken journey with you!
The chickens are absolutely loving being out on pasture! They are exposed to fresh grasses, bugs, and forage everyday along with the beautiful sunshine and fresh air! Something every animal should have access too!
