The quail are now about 2 and a half weeks old. As you can see they are no longer fuzzy, and they can fly short distance. This makes it a bit more challenging in the brooding barn during the cold nights... at times they will blow out the propane brooders when they all decide to fly at once.

Just some info for those of you that are interested in buying gamebirds this upcoming season. Some details you need to know..... you must have a permit to buy Pheasant, quail, and/or chukar. You must apply for that permit through your conservation website. There are different kinds of permits that you can qualify for just talk to your conservation agent. Our family is looking forward to working with you this 2024-2025 season

Chicks are beginning to hop and fly.

Quail chicks came out of the brooding rings today. Their pin feathers are coming in and are beginning to hop around vs. run. It won't be long till they are taken short flights in the barn.

Approximately 50 rows at 140 foot long per pen so far. I'm so greatful for this push planter. I would recommend anyone with a large garden to get you one. They are well worth the investment.

Pen prep is underway. Pens will be planted with sunflower, corn, bean, & milo. This will be used as coverage during the hot summer months. It also provides protection from aggressive birds.

Year number 10!!!! The 2024-25 season began with a road trip to Lamoni, IA to get our first brood of quail. Ten hours straight on the road requires some coffee, snacks, and listening to Bible teaching.

This road trip I took by myself. I had a few little escapees during the trip home. Bought a hand woven by '4 year old David" lazy Susan from the Amish store. When I got home we dumped over 7000 quail chicks in their new home for the next 6 weeks.

Thank you God for my safe travels to Iowa and home. I pray this season blesses all of our amazing customers!
