French Onion Croissant Smashburger!
Inspired by a recipe I saw my man make awhile back!
Caramelized onions:
• 1-2 yellow onions, sliced thin
• 1 tbsp butter
• 1 tbsp avocado oil
• salt
• water
Croissant burger buns
• fresh croissants
• garlic butter spread
• Gruyere cheese
1. Start by making the jammy caramelized onions! Heat up 1 tbsp butter with 1 tbsp of avocado oil over medium heat, then add the onions and stir to coat.
2. Season with Salt to pull out the moisture and lower the heat to medium low. Stir and let this cook down for 4-5 mins. Then add a little warm water to the pan to help soften the onions quicker.
3. Cook down for 40-60 mins, and let the onions soften, caramelize, and become jammy towards the end of that time window. If needed, add a little beef stock to keep them from burning half way through the cook.
Croissant buns:
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and cut the croissants in half. Soften or prepare your garlic butter as well as shred the Gruyere and set aside.
2. Cut the croissants in half, cover in garlic butter, then press into the shredded cheese to coat. Place then down on a non stick baking sheet and place in the oven to bake for 8-10 mins, or until the cheese is crispy.
3. Then pull them out, set aside to cool slightly, and build the burger!
