Part 1 of making a proper pot of basmati rice 👇

Chris is cooking 4 servings, which means 1½ cups of dry rice — but before any heat touches the pot, there’s one step you never skip: rinsing.

Rinsing basmati rice removes excess starch that can make your grains gummy or clumpy. It’s the secret to that light, fluffy texture where every grain stands on its own. ✨

Here’s how he does it:
1️⃣ Add the dry rice to a bowl and fill with water.
2️⃣ Swish it around to release the starch.
3️⃣ Drain and repeat this five times.
4️⃣ On the last rinse, let it soak for 30 minutes before straining.

That soak helps the grains elongate beautifully during cooking — it’s what gives real basmati that signature look and texture.

Do you rinse your rice before cooking? 👇

If your basmati rice is bright white, that’s your first red flag. 👀

True, aged basmati has a hint of brown—a subtle golden hue that tells you it’s been naturally aged, not bleached. That little tint means deeper aroma, better texture, and the kind of fluffy separation you just can’t fake.

So when you’re shopping for rice, look for the grains with a kiss of color — they’re the real deal.

DID YOU KNOW that coriander comes fom the same plant as cilantro?
Coriander seeds offer a warm, citrusy, and slightly nutty flavor. A staple in Indian cuisine, they add depth to curries, spice blends, and marinades. When toasted, their aroma intensifies, releasing earthy and floral notes that enhance both savory and sweet dishes.
