The girls are slowing down with all this heat so im letting them have a break and free range! It's only fair they get a vacation too 😅

Somebody got into the yolk bowl 😆

These are what we are calling Silbars. They often inherit the gentle Silkie personality with an excellent egg laying ability and colorful egg genetics theyll get from their Isbar genetics. We are expecting them to lay beautiful shades of green/blue eggs. They make eye catching additions to any backyard flock and are perfect for anyone who loves unusual, colorful chickens!

Our newest Silverudd babies are enjoying a little sunbathing session today 😍☀️ The way they just flop over and fall asleep gets me everytime!

I'm especially crossing my fingers that the blue chick turns out to be a rooster because it hatched from the prettiest speckled egg. 🤞🐣 If those genetics carry through, he could be a really exciting addition!

Oliver was supposed to leave, but I just couldn't imagine never seeing him again. Goat math is definitely real. 😅❤️

This sweet boy follows us everywhere and soaks up every cuddle the kids will give him. Now we're at a crossroads... do we keep him as our spoiled pet and band him, or let him grow up to be a breeding buck and embrace the stinky buck life? 😂🐐

Just a simple picture to show how we get our Olive Eggers and Backcross Olive Eggers! 😍

We breed our speckled Black Copper Marans rooster to our Silverudd Blue hens to create beautiful speckled Olive Eggers. 🫒

Then, those Olive Egger hens are bred back to the same Black Copper Marans rooster to produce our first generation backcrosses. These backcrosses typically lay even deeper olive colored eggs, and additional backcrossing can continue to deepen egg color over time.

Genetics are fascinating and so much fun to work with, but they can also be unpredictable. That's part of what makes breeding so exciting!

We are starting to fill up our fridge with fresh goat milk, so I guess it's only fitting that I finally learn how to make goat milk soap and lotion! 🐐🥛
Cheese, soap, lotion... the possibilities are starting to look pretty exciting around here.

If anyone has a favorite way to use goat milk, please share! 💕

Whoever said not to cry over spilled milk clearly never hand milked goats before. 🤔

Half of it was on the ground with just one kick, but I'd still call it a great milking session...especially for Miss Butters' very first time ever! Honestly, I didn't think I'd have the time to add milking to our daily routine but we're going to give it a try after all. Feeling pretty hopeful and excited 🐐🥛
