Daidala is a small-batch cider company based in Asheville, North Carolina. Our company is nomadic, which means we collaborate with other producers to create rare and unconventional ciders. We design (and indulge in!) experimental and traditional styles of cider while constantly seeking influence from other industries and cultures. Our name stems from Daedalus, a craftsm

an and artist from Greek mythology. In ancient Greece, the word "daidala" referred to an object of fine design. With every batch of our cider, we strive to meet this standard of quality and creativity.

Our Story

Daidala Ciders is a nomadic cider company based in Asheville, NC. It was founded by cidermaker Chris Heagney. Chris began his fermentation career in the brewing industry, learning the trade in Sunderland, England. While studying there, he got his first taste of finely crafted cider at a beer festival in Newcastle. After returning to the US and finding work at a brewery, he frequently thought about those ciders he had enjoyed across the Atlantic. Soon enough, Chris sought out a cidermaker’s position at Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider in Portland, Oregon. Alongside founder Nat West, he not only learned the techniques of cidermaking, but also helped to create some of the most innovative and eccentric ciders in the industry. After moving back to the east coast, Chris founded Daidala Ciders in Asheville. In keeping with his passion for experimentation, he focuses on small batch ciders, pursuing unconventional flavor combinations and uncommon cidermaking methods. Chris is considered a “nomadic cidermaker”, meaning he travels to produce ciders with other companies at their cider facilities. Some of the cideries he has worked with include Red Clay Ciderworks in Charlotte, NC and Cider Riot! in Portland, OR. Despite being nomadic by profession, he calls Asheville home and has opened a taproom in the River Arts District for lovers of craft beverage to come and try all of Daidala’s creations. The word “daidala” stems from Daedalus, a craftsman and artist from Greek mythology.
