Southside Community Farm

Southside Community Farm Southside Community Farm is an urban community farm growing Black food sovereignty. Feel free to visit and lend a hand if you can.

Programs include the free fridge, BIPOC Farmers Market, workshops, community dinners, and more! Southside Community Farm (SCF) is an urban food space in the historically Black Southside neighborhood of Asheville, North Carolina, which exists on stolen Cherokee land. Since 2014, SCF has been a BIPOC-centered space for neighborhood residents to enjoy healthy food and to connect with nature and each

other. Community events include the BIPOC Farmers Market at 12-3 PM on the 1st Sunday of the month (May-October). We are building Black food sovereignty together!

Cooler Update Part 1
Our walk-in cooler project is complete! Thanks to all who have supported!
In addition to some very generous labor donations and the fundraiser to purchase the trailer shell, the build out has cost $2500 to complete. Right now we are primarily using the cooler for our Veggie Box program, which provides 46 Southside families with fresh, local produce during the growing season. It takes about $25 to provide a veggie box delivery for one family for the week. If you would like to contribute to this program, you can go to the donate section of our website or click links in our bio. As always thank you for your support!

In Part 2 we will show you our Veggie Box packing with the new cooler πŸ…

Thoughts on strawberryness. This is one of the many rewards of food sovereignty -- food that tastes like the essence of itself!
Also, come to our potluck and volunteer day on Sunday (April 26 from 1-4:30). I can't promise you a strawberry since the kids in our youth programs devour them, but we can try to find some ripe ones together! πŸ“

It's time once again for 4th Sunday Potlucks! These cozy community events are simply a time to get together, enjoy the farm, and eat some good food. Our first potluck of the year will be comfort food themed, so we encourage you to bring a dish that brings you joy, reminds you of home, or just makes you feel warm inside.

After our potluck, we will have a public volunteer day from 2:30-4:30. Feel free to come to one or both events. If you join us for the volunteer day, please wear close toes shoes and bring a water bottle.

This events is open to everyone and will be held on Sunday, April 26 from 1-4:30 PM. Location is Southside Community Farm, behind the Edington Center at 133 Livingston Street, Asheville.

Our creature friends are emerging for spring! During youth education classes, kids have been catching beetles and other small wonders. The biodiversity we see at the farm shows us that we're doing a good job making a healthy space for humans and the more than human world. This time of year we see lots of brown snakes at the farm, especially staying warm under tarps, etc. These sweet little guys are harmless to humans and a friend to the farm. If you see them, please treat them kindly (kisses not required).
