Once a year, this incredibly important visit happens, and we look forward to it every single time! 🌾

This is our Mill Manager Jill with Jeremy, our OCIA organic certifier, during our annual certification inspection last week. Every year, a third-party inspector comes to Janie's Farm and Janie's Mill to independently verify that everything we say we do in accordance with the USDA Organic rules is actually what we do. No shortcuts, no self-reporting, no taking our word for it.

When you see the USDA Certified Organic seal on every bag of Janie's Mill flours, grits, and grains, it means an inspector came here, looked at our records, inspected our operation, and confirmed that we meet all of the strict organic standards: no synthetic chemicals, no glyphosate, no GMOs, and a continual commitment to improving the health of our soil and our practices year after year.

In a world where "natural" and even "regenerative" can be used by anyone without verification, organic certification is one of the few labels backed by genuine independent accountability. We take that seriously, and we are proud to earn it every single year.

To everyone who chooses Janie's Mill because you trust what's in the bag: this annual inspection is part of why you can. 🤍🌾

When the fields are wet, the work doesn’t stop … it just moves to the farm shop! 🔧

Farmer Tim gives you a peek at what a rainy day at the farm shop looks like when our delivery vehicles are due for maintenance. From oil changes to tire inspections to chassis checks, Tim and the farm shop team make sure everything is working properly before our drivers hit the road. It might not be the most glamorous side of what we do, but it is essential to ensuring your order reaches you in a safe and timely way! 🙌

There is so much that happens behind the scenes to get your flour and grains to you, and we love pulling back the curtain to show you all of it. From the fields to the mill to your kitchen, we are transparent and proud to share it all with you!🌾

Our very own Farmer Harold is one of the featured speakers at the Slow Food USA Community Meal and Discussion at Prairie Fruits Farm and Creamery in Champaign, IL and we’d love for you to be there! 🌾

Join us for a delicious meal featuring local grains and thoughtful conversation about the growing movement to bring grain back into our regional food system. You’ll learn more about grains grown for flavor and nourishment, milled close to home, and connected to the farmers, millers, bakers, brewers, distillers, and chefs in our community.

Although Illinois is one of America’s largest grain-producing states, most of what’s grown here enters a global commodity system: bound for livestock feed, fuel, export, and industrial processing. This Community Meal features people who are changing that by bringing local grains and flours to you.

In addition to Farmer Harold, the panelists include Marty Travis of Spence Farms and Jeff Hake of Funk’s Grove Heritage Grains, with remarks from Slow Food USA Executive Director Kris Reid.

Join us on Saturday, September 5th at Caprae Restaurant at Prairie Fruits Farm and Creamery in Champaign, IL. It’s the kind of evening we love to be part of, and think you will, too!

And the dinner menu? A beautiful, locally-sourced buffet featuring freshly baked cornbread made with Janie’s Mill stone-ground cornmeal. 🙌

Visit the link here to get your ticket! We hope to see you there: https://www.exploretock.com/prairie-fruits-farm/event/619739/slow-food-usa-community-meal-and-discussion

Is there anything better than fresh, homemade waffles? We think not! 🧇🌾

Happy National Waffle Day! We are firing up the griddle today and making a batch of our Hearty Three-Grain Waffles. And this recipe has a special story behind it!

This recipe comes from Will, husband of our Mill Manager Jill, who made these waffles nearly every weekend as their daughters were growing up. It has been a staple recipe for years, and now it’s one of the most loved recipes in our community — the kind that gets passed around and becomes part of your own family’s weekend routine. 💛

What makes these waffles so special is the combination of three Janie’s Mill stone-ground grains working together - All-Purpose Flour, Cornmeal, and Buckwheat Flour. The result is a crispy, nutty, beautifully hearty waffle packed with good fats, smart carbs, and way more flavor than anything you’ll get from a box mix. Ready in about 20 minutes and makes about 5 hearty waffles — or 15 pancakes if you’d rather go that route.

Top them however you like and enjoy every single bite. Get the recipe at janiesmill.com and tag us if you make this recipe!👩‍🍳

Kinda chic to care about where your flour comes from. 🌾

In a world where most people never think twice about what’s in their bag of flour, we think knowing matters. Knowing the farmer who grew the grain. Knowing the miller who stone-ground it. Knowing that no synthetic chemicals touched the soil it came from. Knowing that every part of the whole grain made it into your bag, nothing stripped out, nothing added.

That’s not a small thing. That’s everything.

At Janie’s Mill, we care deeply about what ends up in your kitchen because we believe the ingredients you bake with and what you feed your family matter. It matters for your health, for the health of the soil, and for the future of food in this country. We take every part of the process seriously — the planting, the tending, the harvesting, the milling, and the hand-filling of each bag of flour that shows up at your door.

You deserve to know your farmer. You deserve to know your miller. And you deserve flour that was grown and milled with genuine care for you and for the planet.

Swipe through and tell us which slide you relate to most!

A sourdough starter from a neighbor changed everything. 🌾🍞

That’s how wild lab bakery in Lexington, Kentucky got its start. Walking through their doors on National Avenue, smelling fresh sourdough in the air and watching a room full of regulars greeted by name, you can see just how far that little starter has come!

Andrew’s journey from front porch pizza parties to a beloved neighborhood brick and mortar bakery is the kind of story that reminds us why we do what we do. We are so proud that Janie’s Mill grains and flours are part of what comes out of the Wild Lab ovens every day, including their sourdough loaves with our High-Protein and Spelt Flours, bagels featuring our Durum Flour, and their incredibly popular Einkorn Chocolate Chip Cookies.

If you’re near Lexington, KY, stop by Wild Lab Bakery Wednesday through Saturday, and be sure to give them a follow at wild lab bakery! 🙌
