One flush can shut down your pump station.

Rags, wipes, and foreign materials wrap around impellers, interfere with level controls, and cause the kind of failures that send crews out at the worst possible time. And with disposable hygiene products more common than ever, the problem is only getting worse.

Part 2 of our pump station series breaks down exactly how this happens and what you can do about it — from pump selection to wet well design to operator best practices.

FOG in your pump station is not just a nuisance — it coats floats, chokes pump intakes, and quietly reduces system performance until something fails.

We just published Part 1 of a two-part series on combating FOG in submersible pump stations. It covers where grease builds up, the limits of traditional cleanout approaches, and how the FOG Rod works to keep buildup from establishing itself in the first place.

Worth a read if you manage or service lift stations: https://woodequip.com/news/fog-submersible-pump-stations/

Gear Pump vs. Lobe Pump: Which One Is Right for Your Application?

Both are positive displacement pumps, but the differences matter. 👇

🔹 Gear Pumps — ideal for high-viscosity oils and clean fluids. And there's even a difference within gear pumps: internal gear designs (like Viking Pump) run smoother and handle a wider viscosity range than external gear pumps.

🔹 Lobe Pumps — better for sanitary, shear-sensitive, or high-solids fluids. NETZSCH rotary lobe pumps are a go-to here — non-contact lobes, low shear, and fully CIP/SIP capable.

Knowing the pump type is step one. Knowing which design fits your application is where we come in.

Not sure? Call us — we'll help you spec the right one. 📞 804-798-8844
