So THIS breeding happened this week! While this is a 9+% line breeding, it wasn’t why I chose it. 💕
I was EXTREMELY fortunate late last year to bring Twin Pears CT MoonBean *B VVE88 (@7 08) back into the fold. I sold him as a yearling, having only bred him to a couple of our does way back then (he was born January 2019), and those daughters turned out to be GCH (pending) Twin Pears MB Hello Dolly 2*M VEEE90 and Twin Pears M Blkberry VEEE89. Both does were BIG improvements upon their dams, particularly in the mammary system. But they were the only daughters I had from him, he hadn’t been collected, and he was getting up there in age. 😳
When I reached out to Shaina Hatcher to see if I could bring Bean home, she was receptive and so kind. ☺️ They loved him very much, but had put breeding on the backburner raising their human kids. I was really afraid Bean was going to be sterile given his age and lack of recent progeny, but had to try. When MoonBean arrived home, all of our does were already pregnant, except Twin Pears Majestic Duchess VEEE91. We quickly got to work getting Bean collected (30 straws with 70% post thaw motility, thank you very much Bean!) and Duchess easily settled with him. Relief! 🥰 They gave us exquisite buck doe twins the beginning of June. I’m absolutely over-the-moon with his little daughter, Twin Pears MB Nefertiti. She was born so late in the year she will be a dry yearling in 2027, but she is the most dairy little doeling you ever laid eyes on, and was 2x 2nd place in the baby class at her very first show (the littlest one in the ring).
But that brings us to THIS pairing that took place a few days ago. My current goal is to get MORE DAUGHTERS from Bean—daughters to show, appraise and put on milk test. His girls are the whole package! ✅✅✅ (I would also like to see a couple of future sons in Performance Herds, too.) For my breeding program I want daughters from proven dams I can pick up and run with. So Twin Pears Mohave’s Mari 7*M VEEV88 is the perfect match. She has so far given me two exceptional daughters (Twin Pears Yellow Paper Daisy 1xJGCH at her only show and Twin Pears RN Desert Jewel VVVV86 5x First Place 1x First udder and she’s still just a yearling!). But the line breeding component really has its benefits, too. Mari demonstrates all of the improvements I’ve been working on with this line, having a rock solid top line, fullness in the crops, tight at the point of elbow and a wide, level rump. Bean adds his extreme dairyness with a long dairy bone pattern and excellent depth of body. I think most folks following this page know that there are stunning, (very) well attached, productive mammaries on both sides of this pairing. 😉
So fingers crossed this pairing settles! I’m looking for a couple more Performance Herds to help me on my quest to put more Bean kids in the spot light on milk test and the show ring. 1 Doeling and buckling reservation available for MoonBean x Mari. Let me know if you want to take on the quest! Wattles possible in this pair.
