Twin Pear Farm llc

Twin Pear Farm llc We are a family farm located in beautiful Ashland, Oregon. We raise ELITE, show quality Nigerian Dwarf goats and sell award-winning goat milk soap and lotion.

Our motto is "Consistently pursuing excellence." A decade ago we wondered if it was possible to return to the lifestyle of our grandparents (perhaps great grandparents) while keeping a foot in the modern world. After the birth of our twins we knew it was time to make a change for quality over quantity, hard work over computer work, dirty overalls over street wear. In 2012 we found a magical piece

of land featuring twin granddaddy pear trees in the Applegate Valley. We immediately got to work, transforming it into the homestead we imagined. As a family we chop firewood, raise chickens, milk goats, grow vegetables, create crafts, and share the abundance with our neighbors at our small roadside farmstand. There's nothing quite like falling asleep on sun-dried sheets after working outside all day, creating with your own two hands. It's a ton of work, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

So THIS breeding happened this week! While this is a 9+% line breeding, it wasn’t why I chose it. 💕

I was EXTREMELY fortunate late last year to bring Twin Pears CT MoonBean *B VVE88 (@7 08) back into the fold. I sold him as a yearling, having only bred him to a couple of our does way back then (he was born January 2019), and those daughters turned out to be GCH (pending) Twin Pears MB Hello Dolly 2*M VEEE90 and Twin Pears M Blkberry VEEE89. Both does were BIG improvements upon their dams, particularly in the mammary system. But they were the only daughters I had from him, he hadn’t been collected, and he was getting up there in age. 😳

When I reached out to Shaina Hatcher to see if I could bring Bean home, she was receptive and so kind. ☺️ They loved him very much, but had put breeding on the backburner raising their human kids. I was really afraid Bean was going to be sterile given his age and lack of recent progeny, but had to try. When MoonBean arrived home, all of our does were already pregnant, except Twin Pears Majestic Duchess VEEE91. We quickly got to work getting Bean collected (30 straws with 70% post thaw motility, thank you very much Bean!) and Duchess easily settled with him. Relief! 🥰 They gave us exquisite buck doe twins the beginning of June. I’m absolutely over-the-moon with his little daughter, Twin Pears MB Nefertiti. She was born so late in the year she will be a dry yearling in 2027, but she is the most dairy little doeling you ever laid eyes on, and was 2x 2nd place in the baby class at her very first show (the littlest one in the ring).

But that brings us to THIS pairing that took place a few days ago. My current goal is to get MORE DAUGHTERS from Bean—daughters to show, appraise and put on milk test. His girls are the whole package! ✅✅✅ (I would also like to see a couple of future sons in Performance Herds, too.) For my breeding program I want daughters from proven dams I can pick up and run with. So Twin Pears Mohave’s Mari 7*M VEEV88 is the perfect match. She has so far given me two exceptional daughters (Twin Pears Yellow Paper Daisy 1xJGCH at her only show and Twin Pears RN Desert Jewel VVVV86 5x First Place 1x First udder and she’s still just a yearling!). But the line breeding component really has its benefits, too. Mari demonstrates all of the improvements I’ve been working on with this line, having a rock solid top line, fullness in the crops, tight at the point of elbow and a wide, level rump. Bean adds his extreme dairyness with a long dairy bone pattern and excellent depth of body. I think most folks following this page know that there are stunning, (very) well attached, productive mammaries on both sides of this pairing. 😉

So fingers crossed this pairing settles! I’m looking for a couple more Performance Herds to help me on my quest to put more Bean kids in the spot light on milk test and the show ring. 1 Doeling and buckling reservation available for MoonBean x Mari. Let me know if you want to take on the quest! Wattles possible in this pair.

Planned Pairing:
Sire: Twin Pears CT MoonBean *B VVE88
SS: Buttin'Heads Containerised +*B EEE91
SD: SG Sugar Moon V Java Pepper 5*M VEEE88 ELITE

Dam: Twin Pears Mohave's Mari 7*M VEEV88
DS: Barbichette Sweet Mohave
DD: SG Oak Apple Marocchino 6*M VVVV89 ELITE

In the words of my 80s and 90s friends, “It’s on like Donkey Kong!” 🦍🤣🤣

Hormones and tail wags are FLYING around here. If all of the does who’ve been in heat the past week settle, I’ll be in a world of hurt come mid January 2027!! 😳

Pictured here are Wolfivan Polynesian Prince and Twin Pears RN Desert Jewel. Jewel is usually quite lady like and shy, but not today! She chased Prince around the pasture to make sure HE SMELLED HER. Like right now sir! While she did catch his attention, Prince is still a wee bit confused and waffles between mounting and trying to nurse off the does (he was Dam raised, not bottle). So we shall see. But he seems to be figuring it out.

Miss Desert Jewel is one of the few Senior does with an available Doeling and Buckling reservation! While she was a FF this year, she already has 5 First Place wins in the show ring 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇, 1 First Udder 🥇, and our appraiser called her a “very promising young doe” with a score of VVVV86. I’m FOR SURE keeping a doeling from this pair and may even consider a buck for myself. VERY excited about this complementary pairing. And hey, the kids will probably be gold if you’re into it. 😉💛 Shoot me a message if you want to be on the rezzie list for this pair!

Ultrasound scans should be interesting in ~30-40 days. 😅

Have you thought about your Herd Goals recently?

I went into 2026 with just a few goals for my doe herd:
1) Finish Dolly’s Permanent Championship (she only needed one more unrestricted leg)
2) Have two more does appraise 90
3) Attend 3 shows
4) Continue Standard Milking Testing to help ELITE does reach their status (Top 10 if they wanted to go there), yearling does get their *Ms, and to continue proving out the sires of all our does

While these goals didn’t seem overly ambitious, there are no guarantees. I didn’t want to get my hopes up. I knew I liked what I was seeing in my girls this year and felt quite proud to step them out in the show ring, however there’s always room for self doubt. (Like bus loads of self doubt)

Instead my girls totally blew me away and we annihilated our goals! 😍

Goal #1 ✅:
Twin Pears MB Hello Dolly 2*M was 2xGrand Champion, 1x Reserve, 2x Best of Breed, 3x Best Udder of Breed - Permanent Championship well finished! (just waiting on the official letter)

Twin Pears Majestic Duchess 7*M was 2x Reserve Grand Champion as a 3yo3F

Oregon Trail Huckleberry was 1x Reserve Grand Champion as a Yearling FF! 🙌

🏵 In the 12 Senior Rings my girls walked into, we walked away with Grand or Reserve in 6 out of 12! 😱 Even in a show with 75 Senior Nigerians (!). While not every doe walked away with a ribbon, we were in the Lineup for Senior Grand in 11 out of those 12 rings. Between my Seniors and Juniors my girls stood in the 1st place position 17 times. WOW. 😳 So far above and beyond my hopes.

Goal #2:✅
Then our girls outdid themselves with our Linear Appraisal scores—

🌟Twin Pears MB Hello Dolly 2*M VEEE90
🌟Twin Pears Milan Fashion Week 9*M VEEE91
🌟Twin Pears Majestic Duchess 7*M VEEE91

Plus we got to see a lot of Twin Pears in other herds achieve 90+ scores as well. Serious icing on the cake!

Goal #3: ✅
Attend 3 shows—we attended 4, and did well at all of them, so Mission Accomplished 😅

Goats #4: ✅
We have multiples does on the most recent ELITE list, and all of our yearlings are on track to achieve their *M. Milan is shooting for the moon and well on her way towards Top 10 if all continues to go well. VT test in a few days.

Phew! What a YEAR! Very proud of what my ladies have done. We will continue to plug along on our milk test, but I’m gratefully hanging up my clippers for the year! And breeding season is already in full force (at least 5 does were in heat today, yikes! 😳)

Next year’s goals? I’m still working on that. 😅 Top of the list probably includes Nationals in Salem, OR. Perhaps working on Duchess’ Permanent Championship, and shining the light on our exciting up and comers (Lady and Jewel come straight to mind!). But in the mean time I’m already looking forward to my long winter nap! I LOVE my Winter break. How are your 2026 herd goals coming? What do you want to achieve in 2027?

**UPDATE: DOLLY'S OPEN RESERVATION HAS BEEN FILLED**My beautiful entourage of GCH (pending) Twin Pears MB Dolly 2*M VEEE90 daughters! 😍 I’m not sure which one I love more. Dolly is exceptional at making copy/paste versions of herself, which is a wonderful thing.

I *just* had a reservation for a Dolly doeling open up! Her planned pairing is with Wolfivan Polynesian Prince. Shoot me a message quick if you want to snag the spot!

Breeding season has officially commenced here at Twin Pear Farm! 😱😳🤯 Yep, you read that right!

If you’ve ever talked to me about breeding/kidding season, you know I’m the RARE individual who LOVES to kid in January and February. Call me crazy, but I ADORE the quiet of winter in the barn and my ability to just focus on the goats (spring is FAR busier around here). I just zip up my insulated overalls and crawl in my sleeping bag. 🥶❄️⛺️ While some would argue kidding so early gives you a disadvantage in the show ring, I have lots of evidence that showing my does at five, six, seven months fresh has never slowed us down. So here we go!

This week we moved Wolfivan Polynesian Prince 🏝 (Wolfivan Yohimbe Root x Wolfivan Tahitian Princess) in with a large group of our senior does: Milan, Huckleberry, Dolly, Paisley, Iittala, Jewel. I’ve NEVER used pasture breeding in 10+ years of raising ND, so this is a new adventure for both Prince and I! So far he’s enjoying himself. 😄

Our reservation list has filled faster than ever before, but we do still have a couple of doeling and buckling reservations available for our senior does (link in comments). I FINALLY added our pairings for First Fresheners, which is a great way to snag our genetics on a budget with our next generation. If there’s something you want, I wouldn’t delay! PM to arrange your reservation. All breeding pairs are tentative until pregnancy is confirmed.
