The Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland was no less amazing this time than it was 30 years ago. We saw Othello then, and we saw The Tempest this time. The acting and directing, set and atmosphere were all phenomenal once again! Such a worthy side trip.

Exploring the Oregon Caves at Cave Junction.

We saw a dear in the parking lot on our way back to the van that let us get really close for a photo.

Melon season!

Growing melons is both fun and stressful. There is nothing more delicious and refreshing than a fresh vine-ripened melon. But it seems like the big ones go from green to ripe/split overnight! We’ve been trying to check on them several times a day to catch them in time but we still miss some and it is so heartbreaking!

However, these little melons are much more forgiving!

Pictured here are:

Ginkaku (yellow - these are crunchy and sweet. They can be eaten with the skin on like an apple or cut, peeled, and with the seeds scooped out. One of our favorites!)

Tigger (orange/red - soft and sweet but mild. Definitely the most beautiful melon we have ever seen!)

Kiku chrysanthemum (white - these were not our favorite last year as they lacked flavor, so we didn’t plant them this year. To our surprise, we had a couple of volunteers and they must have crossed with another melon because this year they are sweet and delicious!)

Patty pans are a member favorite! So we try to keep them growing throughout the entire season.

It’s a hot one today! But that doesn’t mean that the cucumbers (and summer squash and okra) don’t still need to be harvested. Lucky to be blessed with this beauty while roasting out here!
