The Roses have such a beautiful fragrance right now so yesterday I decided it was a perfect time to make another batch of Rose Petal Infused Witch Hazel. It makes such a lovely face wash/toner. A special thing to have during the long winter monthsπŸ’–πŸŒΉβœ¨

I've had these Garlic Chives growing for over 10 years now. They come back beautiful every Spring. I harvest some every year, chop them up and freeze them to use during the winter. They smell so good and they have an amazing garlic flavor. Another plant on our farm that you plant once and it shares with you for many yearsπŸ’– My T-Rex chickens decided to claw up the one on the left so I added the log in the middle. The shredded plant is coming back nicely already 😊

We have done it again, we reached another record pair count! We currently have a total of 90 pairs and 91 nests (80 active pairs) which is the most pairs since ESA listing! Surpassing our 2025 record pair count by 2 and there are still at least 4 potential pairs out there! Currently, there are 46 nests being incubated and 34 broods have hatched in the wild. So far we have lost 11 nests. There are 26 eggs from 10 clutches being incubated at the Captive Rearing Center at the University of Michigan Biological Station. The first wild eggs hatched on May 29th at Cat Island Green Bay, WI and Sleeping Bear Dunes NL. The first captive chicks are due to hatch at UMBS any day! Thirty captive-reared plovers have been observed on the breeding grounds; 17 of which are nesting. A hug thank you to everyone who helps protect; monitor; and support the recovery work of the Great Lakes Piping Plovers!

Harvested Red Clover and Self-Heal yesterday. They are laying out to dry now and then once they are completely dry I store them in glass jars. I use the Red Clover for tea and infused oil & the Self-Heal in tea and infused oil for salves. I was able to gather enough Red Clover to last me through the winter and part of what I need of Self-Heal. Both are amazing and I'm grateful to have them on hand πŸ’–πŸŒ±βœ¨

πŸ¦‹ Monarch caterpillars are usually found on milkweed, and they become one of America’s most loved butterflies, famous for their long migration.

πŸ¦‹ Black Swallowtail caterpillars are often found on parsley, dill, fennel, carrots, and Queen Anne’s lace, and they become beautiful garden pollinators.

πŸ¦‹ Eastern Tiger Swallowtail caterpillars usually live on wild cherry, tulip tree, birch, ash, and other native trees, and the adults are important nectar visitors.

πŸ¦‹ Mourning Cloak caterpillars are often found on willow, elm, birch, poplar, and hackberry, and they become one of the first butterflies seen in spring.

πŸ¦‹ Red Admiral caterpillars usually hide in folded leaves of nettles and false nettle, and the adults help pollinate flowers while feeding on nectar.

πŸ¦‹ Luna Moth caterpillars are found on walnut, hickory, sweetgum, birch, and persimmon, and they become one of the most beautiful native moths in the USA.

πŸ¦‹ Cecropia Moth caterpillars are often found on maple, cherry, apple, birch, willow, and lilac, and they become North America’s largest native moth.

πŸ¦‹ Tomato Hornworm caterpillars are usually found on tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and potatoes, but they become large native hawkmoths, so it’s better to move them instead of crushing them.

My Spruce Tip Syrup made with Spruce Tips and Organic Brown Sugar was ready to strain today. I had it in the sun on my windowsill for about 2 weeks. Now I'll store it in the fridge and we'll have a nice cough syrup for winter πŸ’–β„οΈ
