Today we celebrate 25 years of baking delicious breads, pastries, and desserts for our amazing Chequamegon Bay community! We are grateful beyond words for the support we've received over the years. Without the hard work of our talented staff, and the support of our faithful patrons, we couldn't have made it this long. Thank you one and all for an incredible 25 years!! What started as a small bakery with big ideas has evolved into a regional hub for artisan baked goods. We deliver 6 days per week to Duluth and ship our bread as far away as Grand Marais MN! In 2025, we sold approximately 108,300 loaves of bread, 144,500 pastries, and 50,700 desserts out of our tiny kitchen! We produced even more than that and provide local charities with unsold goods every day. Thank you all for the support over the years. We couldn't have done it without you!

Take a minute and peruse the photo montage from the early years to present day.

We'd also like to give a shout out to our sister business Black Cat Coffeehouse for 31 years in business! By coincidence, we both opened on September 15th, 6 years apart. Crazy! Go check out their page for more fun photos.

Workers are what make Ashland Baking Company and Black Cat Coffeehouse possible. We will be closed on Monday to honor the creativity, hard work, and perseverence of the Chapple Ave. crew that show up everyday for this company, for each other, and for this community. From our team to yours, Happy Labor Day to workers in every field!

A big THANK YOU to School District of Washburn for hooking us up with cherry tomatoes and Japanese cucumbers. These beautiful vegetables were grown and sold by their agripreneur program. We plan to incorporate them into offerings in our deli case. Great job, students!!!
