Tubby Creek Farm is the working farm and homestead of Josephine and Randy Alexander, located in Ashland, Mississippi. We are committed to providing superior quality fresh fruits and vegetables to our local community through Community Supported Agriculture, farmers markets, chef sales, and our farm stand. We grow your food with love, sunshine, water and a lot of compost but no synthetic chemicals because we are devoted to the safety of our food and the health of the land.

We’ve gotten a little behind on pruning and trellising the high tunnel tomatoes. Skipped pruning today in favor of just getting them all clipped up. I have to stand on my tiptoes to reach!

The people of social media think I’m a bit dense for picking the beans all in one go. That’s fine. I know this method results in more beans for us because we can actually get the job done this way. For a number of years we didn’t grow spring green beans at all because we just couldn’t get them picked with all the demands on our time. It was only after learning about the single pick method that we tried green beans again. It’s what makes sense for us! Multiple pickings make more sense for gardeners and anyone where space is a premium. For the record, Commercial green beans, whether fresh canned or frozen, are mechanically harvested in a single picking.

With the deepest love, we are thinking of Kayla King, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this week. She had the most incredible spirit, was generous almost to a fault, and always had a smile and a laugh no matter how crappy the work. And she always had a story. Kayla has worked on the farm since 2024, and We are priviledged to have had her life touch ours. Please pray for her spirit, for her mama, and for her two boys.

I wouldn’t want to romanticize farm life, but the path we have chosen does have its perks. Guin and Cooper had the fun morning activity of going out into the gardens and harvesting vegetables for dinner. What an absolute privilege to have such good food at our fingertips.

Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 7 am to 12 pm or 2pm. Starts at $12/hr. Located in Ashland, MS.
