Good Morning all,

Due to rain forecast we will not be at the Ashland Area Farmers Market this morning. The market menu would have been kale, Swiss chard, salad mix, green beans, zucchini, cucumbers, potatoes and rosemary. Yesterday we welcomed around 60 new Northland students to campus by having them select produce grown on campus for their Outdoor Orientation trips, as well as walk through the ELLC garden. There are 9 trips heading out this weekend for session 1, and 15 trips expected for session 2, all with a lot of hungry mouths to feed! Happy Trails!

Check out those root nodules on the green bean roots! The roots house symbiotic soil bacteria to create an anaerobic environment. The result is free nitrogen from the atmosphere.

This alligator-looking insect is a welcome sight to any gardener or farmer. Although it looks nothing like an adult lady beetle, this is the nymph (adolescent) stage of the well-known spotted insect. During the 3 week period before this friend pupates into its adult form, it will eat around 400 aphids.

The cucumbers are tucked in for the next few days. They are looking forward to higher temperatures forecasted for next week. The field covers will also help keep any pests away from the young plants.
