Let’s Be Friends

Hey there. We are the Moores Family: Dad Randall, Mom Connie, Boy (9), Girl (7), and Girl (3). We raise livestock on pasture using a rotational grazing system on land that has been in Randall’s family since the 1860’s. We are the 5th and 6th generations to care for our land, a job we take very seriously. Our animals are raised outside on pasture where they can soak up the sunshine and raise their babies the way nature intended. We farrow to finish our pigs, meaning our pigs are born here and raised here. We actually just welcomed our newest litter of 8 piglets on a steamy July afternoon...they were born outside to a great heritage breed mama and they’re being raised both by her and by the other sows. It takes a village!

A little about how we got here, how we transitioned from our lives as an active duty Army officer and a teacher to a farmer/arborist/Army Reservist and a farmHer/market owner. It was our 10th wedding anniversary and we went away for a night to celebrate/sleep in as our kids were 7, 5, and 7 months at the time. We were out for lunch and I (Connie) told Randall I wanted to quit teaching and open a store, where people could buy our meats and poultry, and other farm products, and pick up baked goods or simple food made with real ingredients grown by the farmers of Ashtabula County, Ohio and surrounding counties. He said, “ok.” And that was it.

Fast forward 18 months and we’ve bough a historic building and become landlords in the process, continued to work our teaching/arborist/Army Reserves jobs, raised a lot of animals, enjoyed the simple pleasures of raising kids on a farm, and worked a LOT of hours renovating our store space. We’ve dealt with city red tape, Army Reserve trainings and schools that took Randall away for long periods of time, farm equipment breaking down, and kids getting sick or sick of us working. But we’re here. We have made it. And we can’t wait for you to visit our store for a filling breakfast made with real ingredients like our peppered bacon and pastured eggs, a sweet treat made with rendered lard and local strawberries, or a quart of certified organic peppers grown by our fellow farming friends. We will see you soon.
