Sugar Hill Farm now has a booth located at the Cozy Nest in Attalla, Alabama. Sugar Hill Marketplace is loaded with unique items including antiques, rustics, primitives, items made from reclaimed lumber and more! Hope you will check it out! The booth has been restocked and revamped. Lots of items on sale!!

Melinda and I had such a wonderful time at the Barn Sale which was held April 23rd at Sugar Hill Farm. We enjoyed finding, displaying and of course selling some of our rustic finds to our friends, old and new. Of course, we have now been bitten by the "Antique Bug", and have opened a booth located at the Cozy Nest in Attalla, Alabama. We opened on May 4th and so far I think people are enjoying what they find. Attalla is a great place for finding old, antique, rustic items. Hope you can make time to visit our booth, Sugar Hill Marketplace, as well as the other unique vendors at the Cozy Nest. Check out the other stores there too including Blossom Antiques, Cotton Belle, Emma Kates, and many, many more. You could make a day of it!

The first ever Barn Sale at Sugar Hill Farm is over! Such a beautiful day for this event. Thanks to so many people for making this possible. I think people enjoyed their Reservoir Hogs BBQ, the great music, the barn sale items and the leather goods and home made soaps and homemade BBQ sauce. The horses were on their BEST behavior, and really enjoyed having company! I hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as Melinda and I did. Wish my Mama and Daddy could have been here to see this. Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed the farm today.

Ready or not, there is a Barn Sale tomorrow at Sugar Hill Farm! The gate will open for visitors at 10 am. What to expect? We will have several vendors including Verbie Janes goat milk soaps, Smoke Wagon Leather ' s unique leather jewelry and other items and Laquana Massey ' s homemade Pirhana BBQ sauce! We are asking $3 at the gate; proceeds go to the Greensport Baptist Church Youth group who will be working the sale. Please bring CASH or CHECK as that is accepted by all vendors. Items are priced to sell!

Few more items you will find at the Sugar Hill Farm Barn Sale - April 23rd, that is THIS Saturday, from 10-4. Finishing touches to be done today, then the big day will be here! Also some perennial plants, garden items, birdbaths, things that welcome Spring in Alabama. Homemade BBQ sauce by Laquana Massey, and delicious food from Reservoir Hogs. Debs Fried Pies and Tammy's pecan pralines to complete the menu. And last, but not least, Philip Mulkey and friends will be pickin and singing aome of the best music you will ever hear! Hope you can take a little time to join us! Most vendors accept CASH or CHECK only. We will be asking $3 at gate to benefit the Greenport Baptist Church Youth Group who will be helping with parking, assisting in loading of items, etc. This group along with their youth leaders Jake and Michelle Layfield have truly been a blessing to me. This is the "old man" of Sugar Hill Farm. He will be 25 in April and is still full of it! Colonel John was born on the farm in 1991 to a leased mare named Mattie Silks. His sire was Fiddlesticks who will be featured in a later post. In this picture he was flirting with his harem on a much more beautiful day.
"The Colonel" has heard about the upcoming event on April 23rd and will be happy to greet visitors from the best paddock on the place!
The Barn Sale is shaping up to be a really fun event. We have some very talented vendors coming! April 23rd from 10-4, Hope you can join us!

This is the beautiful horse who started it all. She was a two year old untrained 3/4 arabian mare named PJ Silver Kha - her nickname was Sugar - so original! At that time, we lived in Mt Brook and I was doing my riding at a farm in Columbiana called Pi Jemba Arabian Horses. Mr Argo had a beautiful white stallion named Silver Bottle+ who was quite popular and had had a nice show career. Bottle was bred to a couple mares living in of all places Ashville, Alabama at a small farm off of Highway 23 One of those mares, named Khadiga was Sugar's mother.. At the age of 2, Sugar became a resident of Pi Jemba Arabian Horses just in time for this little girl to fall in love with the somewhat wild bay mare. We spent hours together each teaching the other many lessons. There were tears, frustration, excitement, smiles and laughter. Whispered secrets, hugs around the neck, tears cried in her mane and just time well spent with this horse. At the age of four, Sugar returned to her St Clair County roots when we moved to the farm in 1976. And there she stayed until her death in 1998 at age 26. Sometimes I still look for that beautiful bay in the pasture and imagine coming home from school to go for a ride along the property looking between her lovely ears. Great memories! Needless to say, the farm was named for her - Sugar Hill Farm - a perfect name as it is situated on a hill and Sugar was the one who got my Daddy's interest in horses started.

Welcome to the Sugar Hill Farm page! This farm was founded in 1976 by Russell and Shirley Cunningham. All because a little girl (that would be me) wanted a horse! Many beautiful arabian horses have been born here and currently 8 horses call this farm home. Located in a lovely valley with rolling hills, a pond, two barns, and a riding arena; Sugar Hill Farm is planning an event! Please save the date: Saturday April 23rd from 10-4. There is going to be a Barn Sale! There will be rustics, primitives, and antiques, leather goods, food and good times. Currently getting our vendor list together, will be posting updates soon! Hope you will consider a day trip to beautiful Ashville, Alabama - it is going to be a great day! Melinda Thomas Smith and Beth Brown are so looking forward to welcoming old friends and making new ones!
