COCCIDIOSIS IN CHICKENS: CAUSES, SYMPTOMS, PREVENTION, TREATMENT, AND HERBAL REMEDIES

Coccidiosis is a highly contagious parasitic disease caused by Eimeria species, affecting the intestinal tract of chickens. If left untreated, it can lead to severe health issues and even death in young or weak birds.

🛑Causes of infection include ingestion of contaminated f***s, poor sanitation, overcrowding, and stress-induced weakened immunity. Chickens consuming infected droppings easily spread the disease within the flock.

🛑Symptoms often include bloody or watery diarrhea, weight loss, lethargy, pale comb and wattles, reduced egg production, and general weakness. In severe cases, dehydration and death can occur without intervention.

🛑Preventative measures focus on maintaining a clean and dry coop environment, providing fresh and uncontaminated water, avoiding overcrowding, supplementing probiotics for gut health, and quarantining new birds before introducing them to the flock. Pasture rotation also helps break the parasite cycle.

🛑Treatment includes administering anticoccidial medications such as Amprolium or sulfa-based drugs. Providing electrolytes, vitamins, and plenty of water aids recovery. Proper hydration and nutritional support are essential for infected birds.

🛑Herbal remedies like apple cider vinegar help maintain gut health, while garlic and oregano provide natural antimicrobial properties. Chamomile and thyme are known for their antibacterial effects, and diatomaceous earth may assist in parasite control.

Managing coccidiosis requires vigilance and early intervention to prevent outbreaks.

Please keep our flock and especially Marvin in your thoughts and prayers.

We lost a hen . Mable and Marvin did everything together . They came to us very sick and they were each others motivation to live. Marvin is heartbroken 💔

Chickens have feelings and they are actually very intelligent .

It breaks our heart to see him hurt but we know she is in a better place where there is no sickness or pain.

Rest easy Mabel we love you and will miss you❤️

Cute is a understatement. Welcome to the world 💕

Congratulations to miss Snow White on being a first time mom. Last year at this time her sister Cinderella was a first time mom.

It’s so wonderful to rescue these birds and get to see them live there lives out and get to become mothers .❤️

Please turn your sound on to hear how adorable it is when she talks to her baby.

Our sweet boy Sylvester passed away unexpectedly on Sunday. Please keep his flock in your thoughts and prayers.

Sylvester was my FIRST rooster. I had the privilege of him and Marjorie having babies, and now I get to see them grow up and live long, happy, healthy lives because of him, which I cherish now even more than I did before.

He was a big part of our lives the entire flock of 30 birds looked up to a 2Ib rooster. He was the boss.

It's not fair when a pet you saved from illegal fighting has his life cut short. During his time with us, he got to feel what it is like to be loved. Most chickens do not ever get to have that.

we miss him very much already

Welcome to the flock Edgar Allen Poe
He goes by “Poe”

Some back story quick:
If you don’t know already my name is Robin , I go to local auctions and buy birds “most are extremely sick” with the help of many vets. They get the care they need to live a happy healthy life. Shout-out to Dr.Anne at Compassion Animal Hospital .

I’ll post the entire story soon on what I do and how this all came about .

Without further or due…

Here is the sweet boy “Poe”

Black eyes
Black feet
Black comb
Black beak
Yes he is entirely black.
So cool ,Right?
Leave comments below on what you think of him.
Or if you know a hen, he is a single boy. 😉

Starting a new thing, EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH!

If people do it why can’t working hens do it🤷🏼‍♀️

That being said,

Septembers employee of the month is……

PAULA

She went above and beyond this month for her flock and we are not even half way through the month.

She beat all 5 roosters in seeing a hawk and told her sisters to hide!

Great job Paula !

*She is camera shy so we posted a picture when she was a younger*

I have great news though!

Micky is the dad to the baby roosters that are soon going to be available for their new flock!
Looking for a very polite young man to watch your girls? let me know!

*all birds are vet-checked and monitored for the best health possible before going to their new home, I take a lot of pride in the health and care of all my birds.
