Today I turn 40.

If I’m honest, I thought life would look different by now. I thought some things would be easier. I thought certain prayers would have been answered sooner, certain doors would have opened faster, and certain struggles would have stayed in the past.

But 40 years has taught me something important: life is all work. The difference isn’t whether you’re working—it’s whether you’re working toward something you love.

This morning I spent the very early hours carefully harvesting and preparing pansies for the freeze dryer. Tiny flowers, one by one. The kind of work that most people never see. The kind of work that requires patience, hope, and faith that what you’re creating today will become something beautiful tomorrow.

And maybe that’s a little like life.

There have been seasons when I’ve looked up and asked God, “Why?” Why this path? Why this struggle? Why the waiting? Why the detours?

Sometimes the answer doesn’t come right away.

But then there are moments like this—standing over trays full of colorful blooms, building a farm, growing a business, creating something with my own hands—and I start to see pieces of the answer. Not all of it, but enough.

Enough to realize that some of the hardest seasons were preparing me for things I couldn’t yet see.

These flowers will be preserved long after their season in the garden has passed. Their beauty won’t disappear—it will simply take a different form. And as I step into this next decade, that’s the promise I’m holding onto.

The years behind me have shaped me. The years ahead still hold possibilities I can’t even imagine.

So here’s to 40. To the lessons, the scars, the blessings, the prayers answered, and the prayers still waiting. To trusting God when I don’t understand the path, and celebrating the moments when He gently shows me why.

And here’s to many more years of growing, blooming, preserving beauty, and finding joy in the work I’ve been called to do. 🌸💜✨
