Come meet Loopy de Wolf and taste the different flavors of Fort George's Lüp Sparkling Hop Water at 3-5 p.m. June 8 at Astoria Co+op! This non-alcoholic, zero-sugar beverage is made with slow-sand filtered water and brewing hops. The National Wildlife Federation recognized the co-op as a Certified Wildlife Habitat for its commitment to sustainably provide the essential elements of wildlife habitat with native plants. The credit goes to Becky Graham of Harvest Moon Design for creating this beautiful, thriving landscape. Here's a note from Becky:

"From the beginning, I knew we would not use herbicides, pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Building healthy soil and microbial life would be the foundation for healthy plants and the landscape. Then, carefully choosing beneficial plants that are resistant to diseases and insects.

Beneficial plants provide shelter and food, with pollen, nectar, seed heads and fruit. We have more than 25 evergreen huckleberries for bees and birds.

The occasional aphid outbreak is left as food for lady bugs and birds. There is something blooming every month of the year.

Our native pollinators desperately need native plants to survive. We are trying to meet those needs by focusing on increasing the numbers and diversity."
