To make the dream of homesteading a reality you need good friends. I'm not talking about your typical friends. I am talking about friends who believe in your dreams as much as you do and will sacrifice a whole weekend painting 60 posts for your garden fence. Thank you Mo Ghandour and Lizzy Dee for your constant support. With a strong (and pretty) fence, we hope to share our bounty for years to come.

Painting posts took us about 4.5 hours, but we were also pleasantly interrupted by visits from new neighbors bringing cookies, puppy playtime, and an informative walk-about with Reo Cordes. I can't wait to learn more about the Permaculture in SLO County group, where we first connected!

I am so in love with our homestead's transition this fall. So much vibrance, chaos, love, and life!

One thing we are particularly thrilled about is our upcoming persimmon harvest! We will be harvesting both hachiya and fuyu persimmons. Does anyone have any persimmon recipes they love? We are going to be needing some options here soon!

Meet Ash! Our new rescued working dog on the homestead. 🐶 😍 He is a whiley 10 week-old male, Australian Shepherd Catahoola Leopard Hound. We hope this means he will have all the loving, exuberant, herding personality of an Aussie with all the keen hunting instincts of a hound. Did you know Catahoolas are the only herding hound and are the Louisiana State Dog? The more you know!

Let's talk about fire🔥. Our homestead is in a high-risk fire zone. While we want to work on growing food, the very first priority is reducing the fuel ladder, in the form of brush and dead trees.

So a few weeks ago my mom, my friend, and I skirted 4 cedars and trimmed countless other trees. All of it will be chipped or buried on-site to help us build our soil.

We girls got it done? How are you reducing your fuel ladder?
