🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July from the California Olive Oil Council! 🫒

As we celebrate America's Independence Day, here's a fun piece of California history:

Did you know that the first olive trees arrived in California in the late 1700s—around the same time the United States was gaining its independence? Brought by Spanish missionaries, these Mission olive trees helped lay the foundation for California's rich olive growing tradition!

More than two centuries later, those roots continue to thrive, inspiring the world-class extra virgin olive oils produced across California today.

Starting to see baby olives appearing on our trees! 🌿🫒

Every olive starts out green, forming shortly after the trees bloom in spring. Over the coming months, warm sunny days and cool nights help the fruit mature and develop the flavor compounds and oil that make great extra virgin olive oil possible. ☀️✨
