I have a question for my fellow SMALL business owners and residents out there...

Whether I'm successful with my "project" in November, I am thinking of bringing an idea to the city for a history tour of Atascadero. There would be two versions, one walking and one by bicycle or car. Visit various sites throughout the area, starting at The Printery and ending with City Hall and either take a picture of plaques that would be put in place describing the landmarks, or even have a QR code that someone could scan into an app. Collect all of them, and the city would award you an official coin.

With regard to our pie business, if someone showed us that coin, we would put out the word that we would give a slight discount. We sell slices for $6 at all the farmers markets, but could knock a dollar off if we saw the official coin. I'm wondering if any other businesses out there might be able to commit to something like this, no matter how slight. For example, maybe 5% off a total purchase, or an appetizer for free if someone ordered a certain amount of food, or even a special dish just for coin holders. Maybe even publish a guide that lists all the businesses taking part. I figure, in addition to giving the discounts, it would even give visitors a reason to stop here on their next trip through. The possibilities are pretty wide.

Here's an example of a coin I received from the sheriffs at The Burning Man festival in September. It seems pretty cheap to make and we could get really creative with it. Maybe have City Hall or even a collection of coins with different historical landmark photos on them.

Hello, all, due to extreme heat we will be postponing our $8 Wednesday lunch to next week. We will be serving spaghetti bolognese, with garlic bread, salad, and a dessert treat called a tiki ball (a peanut butter ball covered in dark chocolate). Call Alicia at 805-792-4310 to reserve a plate.

Stay cool and hydrated and we will see you next week.

Catch us slinging pie slices Thursday night at the downtown SLO farmers market, and Saturday at Templeton in the morning and Morro Bay in the afternoon.

Heads up, this week's $8 Wednesday affordability lunch will be a return to our most popular dish - Hawaiian shoyu chicken thigh plate lunch!

It will be served over rice, with macaroni salad and a King's Hawaiian roll, so please call or send a text message to Alicia Lum-Denchasy at 805-792-4310 if you'd like to reserve a meal. Each plate will also include a special cupcake, courtesy of a volunteer - Rebecca - who also happens to be our neighbor.

The return of our $8 Wednesday Affordability Lunches!!!

This week - 9/23 -, we will feature homemade chili (meat or vegan) over rice, salad, Kings Hawaiian roll, and a surprise sweet treat. Please call Alicia to reserve if you'd like one (or more) at 805-792-4310.

Also, we need more of our wall tiles painted, so get creative and bring a kid or two and help us fill our wall with local art and love. For the more advanced artists, we will have larger boards with inspirational sayings that we would like decorated to place in yards around the city.

I'm back from my trip to TTITD (That Thing In The Desert) and in the kitchen baking after an amazing experience delivering memories of my dad and 85-plus Atascadero friends, family, and fur babies to the Temple at BRC (Black Rock City). It took me a couple of hours, but I was able to get them all transcribed and it was an honor to serve this community in such a touching way.

Our Avila Beach farmers market has concluded for the summer and we are gearing up for a busy fall and holiday season. We will be transitioning away from summer fruit fillings to colder weather ingredients (apples, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, etc.), as well as bringing back more savory and hearty options, like sticky toffee pudding, steak and mushroom, and lamb. Thanksgiving and Christmas will be much less difficult now that we have the El Camino location and its better equipment.

Our $8 Wednesday Affordability Lunches resume next week, September 15th with homemade chili, cornbread, salad, and some sort of dessert, so let Alicia know if you'd like to reserve a plate or two and she'll get you on the list. I'll make another post on Monday to remind you all, so no need to let us know immediately (though we do appreciate a heads-up if you are a sure thing). Of course, you can always come by for coffee everyday from 6am to 1pm and we are usually there baking if you want to stop by to say just to say hello.

A couple of quick announcements...

First, our $8 Affordability Wednesday Lunch will not take place this week as we are taking a few days off to rest up after a long, hot, and busy summer. A little gathering in the Nevada desert, perhaps? ;-) Dark Nectar Coffee will be open, however , and Kylen will be serving his twice-baked potatoes for $8 (instead of $10-12) in our absence. Stop by any time Wednesday and he'll rustle one up!

Second, our son WILL be serving pie slices at the Wednesday Atascadero farmers market a d we will be starting the transition to fall ingredients. He will be bringing maple pecan, fresh pumpkin (locally grown and baked in our kitchen), sticky toffee pudding, apple, and key lime, among others. If you need a whole pie for Labor Day weekend, please let us know, asap and we'll get it done.

Finally, we want to thank you all for your amazing support this entire year and wish you all a safe and joyous holiday weekend.

Now that all the classic car awesomeness has departed our little slice of Heaven, it's time to announce this week's $8 Affordability Wednesday Lunch, which will be...

Ground beef or vegetarian baked ziti, with salad and garlic bread. It's a pretty big portion, so come with a healthy appetite and grab one (or more) and fill your bellies or take it home to eat later. As you know, $8 is our suggested price, but just pay "the bowl" what you can afford and enjoy the company of your fellow A-Town'ers and share in the community spirit.
